Again, we don't all think like Bailey, please don't generalize us like Bailey does you. The inferiority complex makes many Canadians a bit crazy.

This reads even more pathetic than Bailey's rant.

Haha, I knew you'd like it, I had that in mind when I was writing it. I think the title of this thread could be "Hey Canucks, Paranoia will destroy ya...". Well maybe not destroy us but make us bigger whiners than we are now. I don't see how Canadians don't get that calling Americans ignorant, arrogant, or uneducated proves nothing but that Canadians are. It is one of the few things that bugs me, because that represents all of us. How you can defend that? I don't know, especially living in the centre of the universe.

A good point.

I don't defend that view at all. Ergo, you are insulting me.

And you might wonder why I consider you no different than Bailey. Just another whiney and insecure Canadian.

I'm not an insecure Canadian. That's why some people don't like me. I wasn't insulting you, you have called yourself that before. If I was taken wrong then let it be known I was no more trying to insult you then you were trying to insult me.

The centre of the universe is a common (derisive) reference used by provincials to refer to Toronto. I use the term for amusement since every Canadian knows exactly which city is referenced. Indeed, my usage of the term is one of contempt.

The insult is the inference that was defending Bailey's viewpoint or anything here.

This exchange grows tiresome - like every exchange I've encountered with you.

I have a reputation for being an arrogant and condescending bastard, but a very well educated one and I have no tolerance for people casually and erroneously asserting bullshit or idiotic viewpoints/opinions to me that are not mine.

From the OP link. I agree with Louise.
In this case Tim is right, and if you read baileys swill you would already understand this. It has nothing to do with the topic and frankly I don't think he really cares.. It is just one more opportunity for him to take a swipe at the US.

No worries.

The only generalization I would ever make about Canadians is to say they are just like Americans.

And that is funny you said that. When I read people from around the world complaining about the USA, I often wonder: does America have a superiority complex, or does the rest of the world have an inferiority complex?

Thus you feel the need to do this to others. Hmm, educated in the art of double standards yes.

Well in some cases it might be a bit of both, I think it is more an inferiority complex. I am not sure why this is, I know the US is bigger and better at many things, but I don't feel threatened by it. I am proud of my country and don't need to bash another to make myself feel good. I too would like to know why some feel the need to do so.

We don't want to discuss, we want to yell, blame, and criticize for every little thing.

Who would want to work with or help out or be friends with that? The only way we can work things out is too shut up. Stop whining, do something for ourselves, hold OUR government responsible for the problems in our country, and be civil neighbours. If we were to do these things the relationship between the countries would be much better and we would have a stronger North America, and none of these ridiculous border quarrels.
As I once saw on an episode of "South Park," "BLAME CANADA."

I rarely see someone bash his own country, though. Having lived in both the U.S. & Canada, I can say w/some objectivity (I hope) that typically it is the U.S. that is the "gorilla in the room." Not always, but usually. I don't know enough about this issue to comment with anything above an opinion; I just wanted an excuse to post the lyrics to "Blame Canada."

Sheila: Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Sharon: Should we blame the government?
Liane: Or blame society?
Dads: Or should we blame the images on TV?
Sheila: No, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their beady little eyes
And flapping heads so full of lies
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: We need to form a full assault
Everyone: It's Canada's fault!
Sharon: Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the damn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
Liane: And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself!
Sheila: Well, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Copy Guy: They're not even a real country anyway
Ms. McCormick: My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true,
Instead he burned up like a piggy on the barbecue
Everyone: Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Sheila: heck no!
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hullabaloo
Liane: And that bitch Anne Murray too
Everyone: Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
For...
The smut we must stop
The trash we must bash
The Laughter and fun
Must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!!!!

SABAZZ!

If you can't criticize yourself you have no business criticizing others. That's how I feel anyway. I don't bash my country, but I am not so smug to be blind to the fact it has its faults and shortcomings. I do love Canada, more than anywhere, but it's not perfect. That song is funny though, especially when Robin Williams sang it at the Grammy's. (Just a note, but Trey Parker's sister is from Quebec)

People like you are the reason Americans love Canada. From my experience, most of your nation's people DO want to discuss. We both have Baileys. I don't mean to presume, but I'd imagine that you don't want yours any more than we want ours?

I submit that these border quarrels are exactly as you state, ridiculous. When the biggest problems between 2 neighbor nations...2 very proud neighbor nations...are a few border squabbles and softwood lumber issues it's a sign of a very healthy relationship, maybe the best in our planet's history.

Sure, ya'll have a few different philosophies than we do, which is expected and very greatly appreciated. When you get it right, and we get it wrong, or vice versa, we provide good examples for eachother. These problems are just silly, and quite frankly are necessary at times, simply to show that we are in fact independant and proud nations. (I've heard it suggested a few times that a North American Union should be formed, and have disagreed on the grounds that America and Canada are stronger thanks to our differences.)

Hell, not going to Iraq...even as an initial supporter of the war, I supported and respected your nation's reasons for opting out.

So yeah...I disagree that you're a lousy neighbor.
