JP I don't know about the CIA (aren't they only supposed to operate in foreign countries?) but MLK certainly focussed the mind of Hoover! I did 20thC American History as an elective and J Edgar was obsessed with Martin Luther King, especially his alleged sexual antics! J Edgar definitely considered him a risk, if not a communist and a terrorist.

If you don't believe me, you can fight it out with my lecturer. He's considered an expert on the Cold World era and has won several awards in the US and here.

USA can meddle in other countries internal affairs. That just normal.
If another country meddle in USA's internal affairs - WAR!

What's it going to be?
It is clear that you can't do to other what you don't want them to do to you, isn't it?

Do I as a swede get to rig US elections? Or are you americans going to stop your meddling? Or are you total hypocrites?

Re: How world condemns USA embargo on CUBA

I think our policy in the Middle East leaves a lot to be desired. A welfare-state economic model would have simply used the scale economies available to it, and helped the various public sectors in that region build state-of-the-art energy production and distribution infrastructure. Our current warfare-state (ideology) relies excessively on the chaos form of anarchy which tends to promote the general warfare and not the general welfare.

Too9 bad your Cold War expert didn't explain to you that J. Edgar Hoover had files on just about anybody in power and many, many influential civilians. The man was obsessed with data collection in order to secure his own existence. He wasn't above attempting to blackmail those that said anything bad about him. He was a whacko. There were lots of bizarre things that J. Edgar was supposed to have done, but one thing for sure was that he kept files on everybody.

The answer is easy. US foreign policy was always to back the anti-communists/anti-socialists. It really didn't matter if they were worse than the communists/socialists. If the USSR liked them, they were OUR enemy during te Cold War.

That was after the US had already stationed nuclear weapons in Turkey. I never understood that form of American hypocrisy.

US placed nukes in Turkey to protect Europe, not the US. If you recall, during the Cold War, the USSR had a huge advantage in conventional weapons poised near their borders. The threat of US retaliation with nukes is what kept the Red Tide from rolling south against all of your sorry asses in Europe.

Re: How world condemns USA embargo on CUBA

Other than ideology that does not need to make a profit, how does a US embargo of Cuba benefit the US? All we are doing now, is preventing US business interests from making a profit on trade with a nearby country.

Also, but those rockets were directed therefore on the Russian metropols, weren't they?

If you did so, why was it a reason to unleash WWIII if Russian does the same in the other direction. And the US would have started this third WW if not for the Russians to act so rational and reasonably.
You did not protect us with the Cuba crises. You risked our all heads for a total double measurement.

Dont you also see that? I dont say you had no right to threaten Russia. I said it was not understandable why you would have started WWIII if Russia would have done so too with you.

Slarti, had the Russians been acting rationally and reasonably they would have tried harder to go a different route in addressing the nukes in Turkey. They knew the US would not stand for the weapons in Cuba, they were just hoping we did not see them until it was too late.

Fidel, his brother, Qadaffi, Ahmedinjihad, Chavez, Khamenei, and the rest oof Cubas allies are all enemies of the United States. We don't want no stinking, filthy, rotten, Socialism here and couldn't care less what Russia or Belarus has to say about our embargo with North Korea, Sudan, Cuba or eventually, China.

Gort, it was also my understanding that they were also there as a deterrent against a US invasion. Now I can't remember the exact time-line re Bay of Pigs, but it makes more sense than JP's statement did.

Yeah! yeah! But if JP can state that the nukes in Turkey were the only thing 'protecting' western Europe from the Evil Empire then please give my assertion some 'screen time'! LOL

Slarti, it is all a matter of perspective and bias. You are going against a lifetime of prejudice and bias, not to mention a slanted media.
