Re: Who do you support in the final round of the French presidential election?

If I'd been a Frenchman, I'd vote for Sarkozy. However, if I were to decide regardless of this election, I'd rather have a legitimate Head of State.

Re: Who do you support in the final round of the French presidential election?

French are voting now... I'll say that according to polls... Sarkozy is about to win the election

A quizz test from Le Monde to see for who you should vote:

Le Monde.fr : Etes-vous Ségo ou Sarko ?

I had 9 for Royal and 11 for Sarkozy, allmost 10-10

I think I am really a centrist...

Good for you! I would vote for her too, if I were French.

Your vote will be as reasonable and as relevant as any vote in France.

Here in Germany, the newspapers and the broadcasters have run daily, and I say daily, at least during the two rounds, a story on the French elections. French politics is like a show in a way with two interesting candidates. But mainly the interest is due to the fact that the problems the French have - be it the adaptation to a globalized world, the place in an enlarged EU, immigration, payment of pensions, cost of adequate health care, "une société juste"/ "Was ist Gerechtigkeit ?" - are very similar here. France is so much different and so much the same. It is a good way to see yourself in a mirror.

I will vote for Ségolène Royal tomorrow. She was not my candidate, and I regret that my candidate did not make it to the second round, yet I am convinced that she can bring as much of the necessary change to France as Sarko, but in a smoother way. Le dialogue social est nécessaire, surtout si on veut changer les choses. I do not trust Sarkozy and his simple solutions to complex issues.
Thank you, Sucre. Well, the deed is done, as they say. I went to the French Consulate with a friend to cast my vote this afternoon. As Australia is ahead on the global time line, most voted here before voting opened in France. I’m sorry your preferred candidate didn’t make it to the second round, but like you I hope Ségolène Royal will not let us down if she should win. My friend voted for Nicolas Sarkozy, so we have an each way bet! As you say, “Social dialogue is necessary, especially if we want to bring about change”.

When we were coming back from voting, my friend saw a woman sitting in a coffee shop with a Ségolène Royal sign propped up on the table. We went to say hello, and she got up and made a little speech about Ségolène, waving her fist in the air, just there in the middle of the coffee shop. I’m sure the Australians were thinking “crazy French people!”

Well, I have to tell you that there were a lot of Ségolène Royal ballot papers in the bin at the French Consulate in Sydney, indicating that most here would have put the Nicolas Sarkozy ballot paper in their voting envelope.

Thank you. Well, I’d like to vote for Barack Obama, if I were American!

Yes. I think it’s okay to exchange a few words of French here and there, but not to write entire posts or carry out a full discussion in French. And, don’t worry Samantha, French is my first language, but it’s too difficult to read it using my English language screen reader, so it’s giving me a headache too trying to follow the discussion, and I’m just skipping the French posts now. Pity, because I’m also interested in what they have to say.

Funny. I made the same experience this morning. OK I was very early there and to be very honest there was only one ballot paper in the bin but it was the one for Ségolène .

But this doesn't mean anything. Anyway, in the first round of the elections 48% of the French in Berlin voted for Ségolène Royal. Bayrou arrived in second position with 24% and Sarkozy only in third, around 20% ... (and Le Pen 1,1 % ...)

I am quite certain that Sarkozy will win today. I am just curious to know how many more points he will get.

I think that as an Ameican some of the questions are not comprehensible. For example, are you for or against the "carte scolaire". --- Now what's that the "carte scolaire" ? The school card. Now what's the school card ?

That's funny because I always thought it is your posts which are full of foreign nonsense. Anyway, I don't really give a fuck about what you believe. I can't explain why you weren't already on my ignore list. I mean, it's weird that I have millevanille in it and not you.

8-12 here... But overall, the reason why I voted Royal is none of these issues. I voted for her because I dislike Sarkozy's way of making political decisions... And yeah, my vote is more a rejection of Sarkozy than a support for Royal

Some questions of the quizz were unexpected. I've never heard of a debate over publicity about wine. It makes no sense to allow advertisement for alcohol when for example LSD is still illegal... And yes, wine is a much more dangerous drug than LSD, considering social, physical and mental damage (according to independant scientific study).

I thought the same thing, but the very high participation rate made me doubt. There's 3% more participation than during the first turn, which already had historic participation rates !!

Interesting.

I have to come on an American forum to learn this interesting fact, LOL !

This morning, I did not have to wait in line for two hours, as two week ago, in order to cast my ballot. Truely, they were much better organised, with twice as much staff and four voting offices instead of just three.

Yet, I wondered whether that could be too that less people had turned up to vote ...

At any rate, if this not the case, this is good news.

Let's wait.
