Having followed this story (and living in the same city, as where the arrests happened), I've understood as if they arrested them now, to avoid any further chance of them actually being successfull in what they were trying to accomplish.

They could have held out longer without going after them, but that would have meant a greater chance of harm coming to the cartoonist.

This means that their evidence isn't as strong as it could be, but at least they thwarted it. Better to have saved his life than getting a conviction, I think.

In swedish law the suspects can be released if the court decides the evidence against them is weak, or if the risk of them commiting further crimes is low and the risk of them escaping is also low.

Satiric pictures with Sex? Do you think this is no problem in the USA? I could show you also very ignorant and really very ugly pictures about Jesus Christ - this I don't do - but anyhow: it is allowed in Europe. What's the reason to do it in another way with Mohammed? Jesus Christ is the son of god and the main religion in Europe ist christianity. It is the european lifestyle to respect nothing and to criticize everything.
