Paris suburbs may be heating up again

Sounds like a coordinated attack here, and certainly a worrying development. Should the suburbs (and other communities around France) errupt into riots again, I fear they will take on new and much more deadly tone.

BBC NEWS | Europe | Police fired on in Paris suburb

Police fired on in Paris suburb

Four police officers were wounded when masked youths fired shotguns at them in a southern suburb of Paris on Sunday, the French interior minister has said.
Michele Alliot-Marie said about 30 people ambushed the officers after they were called to Grigny when a local bakery was vandalised.

Three officers were treated at the scene after being hit by lead shots. A fourth was admitted to hospital.

About 60 police were injured when riots broke out in other suburbs in November.

In 2005, the government declared a state of national emergency after three weeks of rioting erupted at housing estates in more than 30 towns and cities.

'Exemplary sentences'

In a statement, Ms Alliot-Marie said police were called to an estate in Grigny on Sunday afternoon after several people vandalised a local bakery.

When the officers arrived, they were confronted by "about 30 people whose faces were masked and several of whom were armed," she added.

The armed youths fired cartridges containing lead shot and nails at the police, while others threw stones and Molotov cocktails, setting a car alight.

Calm was restored an hour-and-a-half later after police reinforcements were sent to the neighbourhood and the youths dispersed.

Ms Alliot-Marie called for "all means to be used to identify, apprehend, and bring to justice the authors of these criminal acts" and for them to face "exemplary sentences".

Last month, President Nicolas Sarkozy announced a three-year proposal to deploy 4,000 more police and roll out a half-billion euro aid lifeline to the poor, mainly ethnic-minority suburbs across France wracked by riots in recent years.

He also unveiled plans to help 100,000 people find work and declared "war without mercy" on drug dealers, warning that unless such neighbourhoods were revived, the "very idea of the nation is at stake".

Which would serve France right for buying into the garbage that diversity is a strengh; France is paying the price for its foolishness and I for one do not feel sorry for that nation.

Yes, diversity is a strength, look a the national football team

Integration is a huge challenge

Imperator> don't worry the police always have guns and all sort of weapons, they have a new toy imported from the US: the taser, very popular among the police...

Plenty of firearms in France. Which perfectly illustrates how fanciful most of the shit US conservatives take for granted is.

It was really worth the overall cost of diversity...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The AIDS virus invaded the United States in about 1969 from Haiti, carried most likely by a single infected immigrant who set the stage for it to sweep the world in a tragic epidemic, scientists said on Monday.

Which is falling miserably in France considering that 70% of the French prison population consists of Muslims.

Fjordman: 70 percent of French prisoners are Muslims

Yes, the rate of prisonners per capita in France is one of the lowest in the country where a lot of immigrants come.

Nationmaster - France ranks 95

Oh and BTW , do you know your figures cannot be accurate, to say the least (since it could be total BS) since it is forbiden in France to make stats on the race, relgions or anything like this. So your 70 % could be 50 % or 40 %, who knows ? actually, certainly not your source since even the french state doesn't know that. Nethertheless, what you maybe don't know is the fact in the french prison, some of the prisoner come in whitout being muslims but are converted inside the prison.

My last point, and it's the most important is, how a religion could really say something about a race, a behaviour, a nationality ? Actually, you can be white, born in France , let's say in Normandy and being muslim.... and who knows, being in jail as well... So I think your speech doesn't make sens whatsoever since integration cannot be the matter in this case.

you are not really comparing incidents (those 2), that go on for days and weeks where in cars burn at a rate of several hundred (where in 2-300 a month is now considered "small and normal") a month etc attacks on police etc....... come on....

anyway..no ones throwing a party..I'd say you have overreacted.....dude you have no issue telling us about our foilables ...fine...but for godsakes if the worm turns its time to get huffy? relax...plenty of guilt and shame for everyone..the planets full of it.... ......no one has a conscession....

What does this have to do with what I said?

People within the community in question can still do independent research on the issue themselves and draw estimates. My source was Iranian-Frech researcher Farhad Khosrokhavar who published the book: "Islam in Prisons"

According to "Islam Online:"

Iranian-French researcher Farhad Khosrokhavar said in his recently published book Islam in Prisons that Muslims make up some 70 percent of a total of 60,775 prisoners in France.

As ethnicity-based censuses are banned in France, he said complexion, names and religious traditions like prohibition of pork indicate that Muslims constitute an overwhelming majority in prisons.

When a particular population group is overrepresented in crime statistics or prison population rates there is nothing evil or racist about citing the fact that said group is overrepresented in these stats.

When one group is so vastly overrepresented in prison population statistics; it is quite fair to examine that group especially if the group tends to be mostly foreign in nature.

No. Do I? My point is still valid, though. Conservatives usually have very limited knowledge of the world.
