An old news -- CNN president apologizes for Jack Cafferty's remarks on China

CNN president apologizes for Jack Cafferty's remarks on China --»ªÁúÍø-Ó¢ÓïƵµÀ
But we Chinese don't think CNN's apologize is from it's heart!
We won't accept it because he only apologized stealthily!
If he wants to apologized, he should let the world know!
I think CNN has the ability!
But when we discuss this with westerners, almost every of them try to defend CNN!
If CNN is not wrong, why he apologized to Chinese?
Now, he apologized, who win?
An apologize without sound means what?

Re: An old news -- CNN president apologizes for Jack Cafferty's remarks on China

Although the apology came a little late, there is a delicate balance here in the US between freedom of speech and self censorship. I do not agree with what Cafferty said nor how he said it. But at the same time, if you are not willing to accept a CNN apology, it will be mre difficult for others to accept your when you make a mistake or use the same insensitivity as Cafferty did. It goes both ways.

NOTE: I am not defending Jack Caffrety's statement nor CNN, just stating that apologies goes both ways.

Re: An old news -- CNN president apologizes for Jack Cafferty's remarks on China

so it appears he said-

Cafferty said in a live show that Chinese products were "junk" and the Chinese were "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years."

and? I'd say their products have made marginal gains, maybe we need a thread on all the recalls that have taken place in the last year or so and as far as thugs? well, hey guess what? The earthquake victims have been told by the government, that they can now have, 2 children yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Olympic Chief Vows Free Speech Defense - washingtonpost.com

and-

The one question remaining is whether Olympic athletes will have the unfettered Internet access bloggers need. The Chinese government restricts web access to its citizens, and if there are no such restrictions on Olympic athletes visiting the country, they'll be among the very few people who can freely blog in China.
International Olympic Committee Says Athletes Can Blog in Beijing -- With Some Restrictions - FanHouse - AOL Sports Blog

now THATS a step forward, westerners get to blog!!!

So if an apology isn't good enough. What do you want?

It is not a crime in America to be offensive.

oh yea, I was there in 06 last time, but they where at one point going to be restricted and where given orders regarding what they can and cannot say to reporters etc.....speech police s to speak.

That the Olympics would even go along with this is a travesty to start with, forgetting for a moment the free speech restrictions in china for the average joe.

And how would being censored change anything. It would not change opinion. You simply would not HEAR it.

AND BTW, I agree with the others on here, that you not making China look good. So perhaps you also should be censored.

When I was there, one of my guides said, "We do not have all the human rights that you have in America, but this is the best we have ever had it." I think it is sad that some there do not even UNDERSTAND our freedoms and rights.

I believe that, and I wish America had been the mother of modern China instead of the Soviets. Can you imagine what a world this would be if it were that way?

Who you have met can't represent all Chinese!
Try to touch more Chinese!
We know America is better than China in many areas!
But in fact, not every area of American is good for being followed by China!
Such as Sharon, CNN, there's something that have told us that America is
something wrong in somewhere!
Such as Iraq war, it's an evil action by USA!
