Re: Podolski
Shouldnґt you claim him for Russia ?
After all the city of Podolsk is a mere 40 km south of Moscow.
Oh, no, Podolsk city has nothing to do with it. The family name "Podolski" comes from the time, when Jews started to settle in western parts of Russian Empire, as they fled from the west. The "Podol'e" is the name of the area in South-Western Ukraine. Jews mostly registered under german surnames like Goldman, Silberman, Schwartz and so on. Some of them wanted to pretend themselves in new land as if they were of the Polish noble families, and they added the "ski" to the end of the name of area they indwelled anew. Here anyone reading Russian can find intricated history of the family names' origins by Dr. Baruh Podolski ИРИС - Большой иврит-русско-ивритский словарь д-ра Баруха Подольского, программы для изучения иврита

Thanks for this, I didґnt know about it.

What amuses me though is that I watched tonights game in Vienna and found, that four of the croatian and three of the turkish players were actually born in Germany.
They never lived in the countries of their parents, yet still they play for their national teams.

See Russia in the Final.

Can't we strip Hiddink of his citizenship?

Shortminded idiots, if Russia win, the Holland win collateraly either. Junge Van Basten lost to the Vatti Hiddink. Two Dutch coaches in the competition, where others have one - not bad at all, double chances for glory.
