New Federal Nicotine Regulations and the SCOTUS Medical Marijuana Ruling Revisted

Unfortunately I think that most of the threads dealing specifically with the SCOTUS opinion in Gonzales v. Raich have been archived, but I seem to recall much criticism from the left-wing pothead sympathizers that it was simply wrong for the Court's majority to uphold precedent and proscribe California from legalizing marijuana for medical purposes in contravention to the FDA's regulations and federal criminal law.

Flash forward to today, and the new authority to regulate nicotine and cigarette advertising granted to the FDA by Congress.

Suppose that some enterprising state wished to make the continued sale of flavored cigarettes legal in that state, how many who criticized the Raich decision do you think would oppose the right of a state to keep flavored cigarettes legal even when the Federal Government had proscribed it nationally?

Funny story true story. Menthol cigarettes are exempt from the new regs. Who smokes menthols? President Obama.

Idk, not alot of people smoke a flavored cigarette. (except for menthols) does it carry over to blunts? If so pot heads are gonna be PISSED OFF. Don't be messing with my blunts.

I smoke on occasion when I travel overseas (it helps the jet lag), and I usually use the vanilla or clove flavored cigarettes

The flavored cig clause is there for the sole purpose of allowing the gov access to low cost butt flavored cigs so they can suck ass while their sodomizing us.

it's hard for me to follow the op and i haven't heard about this otherwise so maybe someone could clarify...is the federal govt actually trying to make cloves and flavored blunts illegal?

if they're making blunts illegal, are they just making the actual flavored cigars illegal or will you still be able to get flavored blunt rolling papers?

From what I have read, the flavored rolling papers are included in the ban.

I also know 3 guys that smoke the flavored cigars (strawberry, grape) that are very upset about this new law. They are all in their late 20's.

January 2010.

edit: Somehow the government believes that flavored tobacco products are what get kids in to smoking. I thought teaching smoking to kids like it was a direct route to the grave would be enough. However, I guess these people will never accept that some people just like to smoke.

My son has talked about kids everywhere were smoking the flavored cigarettes. He is a freshman in high school.
With the advertising and branding - no way it could be denied they were targeting teens.

Then why do so many adults smoke them? We already have laws in place to not sell tobacco products to teens, do we really need to prevent adults that enjoy the products from smoking them?

What's next?

What's next? Probably a complete and total ban of tobacco products. Or taxes so high the average smoker can't afford it.
