    Finally changed my avatar.

Due to popular demand, I've acquiesced and updated my avatar. This is a more recent photograph and probably a better likeness.

    A little over enthusiastic.

I was thinking i should do the same but for some reason, there isn't the popular demand to change mine...

    I wonder why...

Says the guy who has a towel over a dog in his avatar.

Don't you ever get tired of being such a troll?

Its a nice avatar, but you could check with Traveler for his castoffs. Just sayin'...

I just changed mine... So far, no small children have started crying.

Jesus Christ, you actually look like that? I always thought your old av was a sort of archetypal "Supreme Court Raises Abortion Age to 18 (newly abortable fetus)" or something like that.

Sorry, just my sick sense of humour. It's not a bad photo but if that's really you it's hard to take that you have a kid being assigned major philosophy books. If OTOH you ARE being metaphorical, just what of, I wonder

I changed my avatar because I thought my posts were unpleasant enough without a picture of the worlds only stand up tragedian gracing them.

Heh... sorry, John. I don't (necessarily) mean to be misleading with the pic - it's not really me. It's a character from the ill-fated, but exquisitely good, television series, Freaks and Geeks. The character was Bill Haverchuck, played by the considerably more handsome Martin Starr:

I liked the character and chose his smiling face for my avatar specifically because he was unexpected. The character, in many ways, was a dead on portrayal of an awkward, somewhat socially retarded teenager, dealing with a world that turned out to be far less humane and empathetic than he was.

Anyway, I don't want to import too much "import" into my choice of an avatar, but recently someone (jpn, IIRC) had suggested I change my avatar - presumably because the visage of a goofy teen makes it harder to take my arguments seriously. But on reflection, I think I kinda like that effect. I don't think any of us should take our little debates here 'too' seriously, and if picturing me as a naive teenager makes it easier to tell me I'm full of shit, so much the better.

Considering the tv shows you've mentioned, I'm beginning to suspect you've only ever watched tv for four years of your life.

I actually haven't owned a television for two decades or so, so there's some truth to what you say. My television broke shortly after Quantum Leap went off the air, and I never bothered to buy another one. But I do try to keep up with the better stuff (admittedly, I'm relying on critics and recommendations).

I'm actually more afraid to debate you now. Looks like you've done all sorts of book learnin'.

Geez.. I hope people realize that I'm not actually a pissed-off, drunken robot.

I only recently watched a few episodes of Freaks and Geeks, I'd never seen it before. Very good show. I didn't realize your old avatar was Haverchuck.. never put 2 and 2 together. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your new avatar comes from the opening credits of the show, where all the characters are sitting down for their school photos? Haverchuck normally has that slack-jawed look on his face (like your old avatar), but when he sits down for his photo, he slaps on the big phoney smile, as seen in your new avatar. I love it! lol...

No sigs for me, but avatars don't annoy me too much.
