Re: Johnston speaks on Bristol Palin, Obama and baby

It sure would be nice if folks respected the choices that women make. If the teen had decided to get an abortion (a choice), none would know (unless there was some sleazy release of that record). This kid made a choice to go through with the pregnancy. It's a shame that one of the two choices available to her is by default public, yet not respected by the public.

His family should still strongly encourage him to at least get his GED. Yes, he can make a good living as an electrician, but some places will not hire you if you don't have the HS diploma or GED.

I think there is some confusion here.
I stated "nor did I say anything against these two"
How is that derogatory ?

What did I say that was derogatory ?

One might argue that using one's own child as a pawn - "look at the choice my daughter made! Choice! Pro life! YARR!" (OK, I added the pirate part) - is disrespectful of women's choices and how difficult they are.

That still doesn't make dropping out of high school a good idea.

Did Palin do that? If so, it will be yet another thing that she has done that doesn't sit well with me. Regardless, it would be nice if the general public respected the kid's choice as they would have for an abortion.

I never thought it did.

Personaly i think politicians kids are brought into politics way to often and it don't need to be done. As for johnson quiteing school i don't think it is a good ideal but at least he is going to work to help take care of his kid. Some thing not to many men do these days. For that i give him an A++

To the best of my knowledge, she did at one point, but if I'm mistaken I'll own up to that

Sorry, I didn't mean to ascribe that to you. It's that multitasking thing - not writing everything I intend to.

No problem. HA! It's Columbus Day for me...no multitasking here! (I just felt like rubbing that in.) Happy Columbus Day.

I don't think she ever did that. She made a statement about the pregnancy and that her daughter was keeping the baby, but I've seen nothing to indicate she's brought up her daughter again, even when talking about her abortion stance.

From what I can tell, she has been trying to keep her daughter out of the spotlight, probably because of all the nasty things the media (Daily KoS comes to mind) has said about her already.

Pretty much any trade done on the pipeline is hard work from what I've been told (by guys who have actually worked on the line). As you say, a certified electrician would have other job options and those would pay well. Still, I would like to see the child get his GED now (while he likely can do so without much study) rather than wait until years from now and have to study up on the things he has forgotten. It is the same advice I would give my grandsons (all but one within 4 years of Levi's age) if they were in a similar situation.

As for Bristol and Levi's decision to have the child, I am pro-choice and choosing to have the child is a choice. I would have also supported them if they had chosen adoption or abortion.

If Levi were a black kid, that makes you wonder a lot of things.

Listen, and listen good...you can't in your right mind expect to flaunt one of your many children and hide and supress the other(s). It just doesn't work that way. Either you be dignified and keep them ALL out the spot light or you be a woman about it and put them ALL in the spotlight.

Sure does.

Sure does.
I agree. They are using Trig to promote their special needs children awareness aspect of their campaign (which, when it comes down the number of votes it will get isn't going to make a difference) and I think its wrong.

If you ask me, they are using the wrong kid. The youngest daughter gave the best PR when she licked her hand to smooth down Trig's hair during the convention.

By keeping both of his children out of the spotlight, I give kudos to Obama.
