No, LOL. He said something like "We will prevail."

The Talibans and Saddam are not in power anymore, but there is still war in both countries and the USA are far from "prevailing".

To have the biggest army in the world is not enough when what you are facing is guerilla war, inner resistance and civil strife.

Shit, I'm sorry for even mentioning the raffle......Dang but people get upset over silly stuff..

For those who don't understand....There were 4000 tickets sold for $10...The ticket allowed you to eat all you want and drink all of the beer that you wanted..There were 6-guns and 20- $200 prizes....The money left over went to benefit of the local fire and emergency rescue center.

Teheheeee!!
Well, every Finn used to carry Puukko (every trooper still do), and even today most `violent´ fights/crimes include use of one.
..but nice pointer. You use Bowies?

And he won the gun in a raffle in which he paid $10 for a ticket. There may have been thousands of tickets sold for a gun that may have been worth a lot. It's the same as buying raffle tickets for a new car.

I'm not familiar with them. Got pictures?
Hold on, I can't seem to upload pics..

Does this work?http://www.iisakkijarvenpaa.fi/images2005/05_leuku.jpg

..and: http://www.iisakkijarvenpaa.fi/image...09_perinne.jpg

Edit: Oh, and if we feel that any normal citizen has no need for gun, then our laws fit quite nicely. Hunters and woodsmen, marksmen, soldiers and such do have a reson for owning a gun, thus they havee it easily.

Thank you.
As you take pride on your guns, we feel the same about our Puukko-knives.
You can quite easily tell number of things about induviduals knife.
More decorations, bronze and silver in the handles and sheats, the more wealthy household.

If intrested, this sums up information quite nicely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puukko

Damn.. I guess I'll have to get one then.. but I can't carry one with me,
because it is illegal here to carry anything in a public place that can be used to hurt another person.
even a laser pointer is illegal and mentioned specifically in the law. (järjestyslaki 10§)
But you can carry a knife if it has some historical significance (12§) or
if you are going to sell it or if you are going to put it on display.
But of course it is legal to own one.

I knew beforehand that you might say just that!
Although illegal to carry, don't ask how many walk about with their own blade..
Carpenters, soldiers, construction workers, hunters and farmers can carry one around in sight without anyone paying any heed.

Edit: Where's your Kurssipuukko then?

You must read me like an open book then.

I'm just a plain old foot solider, they didn't give me such a thing as puukko, cutbacks in the military you see.

Hehee, I just imagined that it would not take you too long to point out that some overly-trained, idiotically bloodthirsty spec.ops Rangers are generally not the best place to get info from, especially when that subject is edged weapon.

Waddya think about the topic in hand? Come on, I think we could use Finnish political view on the matter aswell.

So this became the Finland against USA thread now? But on the thread topic I voted for "M.A.D." It's not too difficult to see how a nuclear conflict would escalate into full blown destruction.

On the matter of having weapons.. I haven't yet needed one, ever. Unless you count the times I needed knife and matches to make a fire.. one or two and even that was in the army, where I carried that useless piece of metal (thats what it felt like during the marches) some people call an assault rifle around anyway. For what would an honest person need a weapon, unless one is put to a finnish court where they turn the victim into a criminal... so maybe it would be useful to get a gun after all.

Using a knife against foreign invaders with smart bombs? Uh.. well there must be some people around that would do just that.. in case the invader would come from Russia that is. Old saying "I'll defend my country no matter what part of east the enemy attacks from".

Re: USA vs the world, who would win

Seeing as how you are one of only 3 or 4 countries that have defeated a global superpower yes please lets here your ideas

Also remember we have our own version. It may not be a stylish as yours, but it has a certain lethality to it

I wonder if that post of yours could be meant as taking a piss, as the english so eloquently say?
Well Russia was kind of a superpower in 1939.

So the american marketplace of ideas really does mean the AMERICAN marketplace of ideas.

No no, just the U.S. against the world. I do know that M.A.D. would occur in that scenario -in real life.

Especially if one side or the other would see that their side would emerge defeated.

You didn't carry that much, compared to some others ¤cough¤ but overall you are right, only for war and hunt.

Jep, I would really like if the entire law would be re-written.

Knife comes to order when in the woods. Smart bombs are not handy in there. True enough, the sole aggressor against us will always come from the east. But toy the thought about U.S. invasion. I did, earlier in this thread.

Actually Dr. I find this thread to be assenine so I am just having fun. No insult intended. I actually do think that while the USSR at the time wasn't a superpower, that part was in jest, that it was still amazing what your country was able to do.
