Re: Whats your favorite firearm?
I remember that the Daisy air rifle company of all people once brought out a Caseless cartridge rifle in .22 caliber. A local store had one but at the time you couldn't get ammunition for them. I passed up buying one at the time, though they were very cheap.
It used an air rifle type piston to compress air which is heated by the act of compression, this is why Suba air cylinders have to sit in a cooling bath while being filled. The heated air ignited the low flashpoint solid pellet of propellent attached to the base of the bullet. These guns are now highly valuable collectors items, with their ammo nearly as high priced as the guns themselves. The Old Volcanic Lever Action Pistols and rifles were a sort of caseless cartridge gun. They called the round used a "Rocket Ball" in that the powder and primer mixture were housed inside the hollow base of the projectile. The Gyrojet Handgun also used a rocket projectile, which eliminated ejection of spent casings. If I'm not mistaken the G11 was used as the pulse rifle Simon Phoenix stole from a museum in the film Demolition man. |

Re: Whats your favorite firearm?
The G-11 was one of the most unique assault rifles, especially its 3-shot burst mode. The whole action, barrel and magazine recoils inside the plastic outer housing before it starts to return to its normal firing position. The third bullet is out of the barrel before the shooter feels any recoil.
I heard they started issuing them to the German military, but cancelled it to save money to bail out East Germany after the wall came down.

My favorite is the one used by a law-abiding citizen to subdue a criminal.

In all seriousness though, I like alot of old school revolvers, like the Smith and Wesson Model 29:

I really like Rick Deckards gun in Blade Runner. I have a hard time figuring out the design though.

The more I read about the H&K G36, the more I like it. Never had my hands on one though

-Hmh, I can only hope that our untalented(to say the least) military leadership chooses this one as the next FDF assault rifle. It would not have the most suitable ammo-type, but as they want everything as "NATO compatible", this would be best of the 5,56mm.

Its for show with no go. The real pistol encased inside the prop pistol could of course fire a blank cartridge, and if not surrounded by the cosmetic shell it would be a real weapon. .223 pistol is a misnomer, as the receiver ring of the rifle action is no longer attached to a barrel in a method which would allow that action to chamber and fire a round, and no .223 barrel of any kind is present. I was using the G36 during my time in the "Bundeswehr", but we didn't have the version on the picture (foldout shoulder support) - imho it's a marvellous rifle. But I've been told by older guys that the father of it - the G3 - did pack a much bigger punch, e.g. through barriers like trees etc.! |
