You, should not, under any circumstances, own a firearm.

No, because you're just off your rocker enough to think that you should use it in some sort of "crusade."

Crusades are called only by the Pope.

3) I knowIknowIknow. But PKM is used here as a SAW.
1) Not sure on maintenance cycle, but these things are old. Yeah, new/refurbished ones are finally coming on line, but up until recently they were in bad shape. Feed pawls all jacked up, guide rails fubar'd, all kinds of bad things. We just kept pushing their service lifes waiting for a replacement to come along. Still nothing on the horizon. Spare parts quality is ok, but the holes they attach into are gapped, out of round, and otherwise just plain worn out.

2) Same story for us, except ours jam even with real rounds, and in nasty ways.

3) I guess SAW is a pretty generic term.

I'll pass along what my dad told me, never buy a cheap tool because you'll just keep buying it over and over again.

This is true of guns as well.

You need to practice with it or its just a hazard to you and your family. A cheap gun basically has only so many shots in it before it wears.

But its your money, not up to me to spend it.

I'd go 9mm semiautomatic. They're relatively cheap, ammo is common and they have sufficient punch without getting really heavy/bulky. I'm fond of the Sig Sauer P226. Good heft, easy action and highly recommended.

Or a Mossberg short barrel pistol grip pump action shotgun.

I never recommend semi-auto's to beginners. A good solid revolver, is usually cheaper as well.

I love Ruger, not only because they are rugged, but economically priced for their value. Alsoplustoo - get a used one from a good gunshop, and you can't go wrong. The Ruger SP101 in .357 is a great starter gun and you can use .38 rounds to practice on the cheap. A decent used one should go for about $250.00

Simple, rugged, reliable, inexpensive.

Thank you, Dad was freaking brilliant. Seems each year I got older (past teenager) he got smarter and smarter.

I like revolvers for that reason as it should force you to learn properly but as that can't be counted on you'll be luckier with the semi.

Great point about the used. My Sig is factory refurbished and thus a great deal. Not wild about Rugers but they are a good price/quality option. That Sig is just smooth as silk, I love it.

My idea for the ultimate realistic shotgun though, is a ordinary 5 shot semi-auto with the buttstock and barrell sawed off - then a home made box magazine to insert in the loading hole with extra rounds.

Re: Whats your favorite firearm?

I'm moving out soon, and I'm planning on getting a gun for safety. I'm in North Carolina, so I can't purchase a handgun (not 21), but I think (not certain, though) that I can receive one as a "gift".

If that's true, I want a .45. If not, though (probably the case), I suppose I'll have to go the shotgun route. Funny, I can buy something that will obliterate anything in its path, but I can't do anything accurately.

So other than that goddamn monstrosity that was posted (and there is no way that double barrel thing is anywhere near legal), what kind of shotgun would you suggest? Unless, of course, that loophole is valid.
