Nope, semi-auto.

I don't have the ~$12,000 it costs to purchase a full-auto AR-15. Nor the BATF permit, but that's a lesser issue.

Remington model 700, 30.06 or 308.

Ithica Model 37 Featherlight 12-gauge shotgun with interchangeable slug barrel with rifled sites.

Simple old Army-issue 45 caliber.

Actually, a select-fire M-16 doesn't cost all that much more than an AR-15, and the tax is only about $250.

Au contrare, my friend.

A selective fire M-16 doesn't cost an agency or an agency sponsored buyer that much more.

A civilian with a tax stamp still cannot buy anything made after 1986.

The tax stamp is $200. A civilian transferrable class III firearm is $8,000 + depending on the gun.

Here's a good example of civilian transferrable market pricing: http://www.westernfirearms.com/wfc

There's nothing like a good old fashioned hand cannon...

I am looking into picking up something like this for my own protection.

I have an Ithaca model 51 featherweight 12 ga. that I use for trap. I do pretty good at trap with this gun (22-24 out of 25) I still haven't hit 'em all (yet).

Hopefully not as a first handgun.

Hmmmm... I'll have to do some research, as I know I defrinitely didn't spend that kind of money, as my wife would have used it on me! It was just a bit of a while ago.

Re: Whats your favorite firearm?

As the supply diminishes, the prices have gone waaaaay up. Heck, even a registered drop-in sear goes for the better part of 7 grand these days.

You can buy an unregistered pre-81 drop in sear, but if you possess both the sear and an AR-15, you're in possession of an unlawful machine gun (even if you never put the sear in the gun), and the ATF will do horrible things to you if you get caught.

Re: Whats your favorite firearm?

FWIW, I would suggest finding a range that offers rentals, and check out a few options on the firing line first.

The big hand cannons are fun sometimes, but not optimal defensive tools IMHO.
