Obama (finally) lays out Economic Plan for Crisis

Yesterday, John McCain actually said that if he’s president he’ll take on, and I quote, 'the old boys’ network in Washington.' I’m not making this up. This is somebody been in Congress for 26 years, who put seven of the most powerful Washington lobbyists in charge of his campaign. And now he tells us that he’s the one who’s gonna take on the old boys' network,” he said. “In the McCain campaign that’s called a staff meeting!- Obama, 9/17/2008 |

Re: Obama (finally) lays out Economic Plan for Crisis
Sounds a lot like his platform which is expensive only without the tax increases. He also seems to think that these "green" jobs are there to be had at the snap of one's fingers. They're just not that way.

I feel the basic plan is solid. It does have a few weak points - like the one pointed out by Matt - but it is basically sound and doable IMO.

Re: Obama (finally) lays out Economic Plan for Crisis
I have to agree, it's a political document etc. I have to also say, however, that there really is only so much the President can do in these situations. I am most excited about the job creation proposals and the mortgage renegotiation ideas. It's typical Dem stuff, but I think we have to accept that if Americans can't spend or save then our economy is in trouble. Obama also finally talked about sacrifice today in his address on the economy.

Re: Obama (finally) lays out Economic Plan for Crisis
Obama's only plan is to use the economic crisis to get elected. Whatever he says now is worthless because, if he wins, he'll backpedal from his promises within days of the election. Just like Clinton did.

Please…..lets gets real here shall we? in Indiana there is a wind turbine project nearing completion good news right? No actually…cause the whole thing is no tied up in the courts because the same grps that funded the dems who "want " alternatives have gotten an injection to stop the power co. from having the transmission lines built...JUST as they effing planned all along. so they have a green plant and no way to send the energy anywhere.....thats just a microcosm of the issues faced everywhere , wheres Obama plan to petition congress to cut through red tape sop these things actually have a chance? I'll tell you where - no where, the Eco lobby owns half the ass on the Dem party and the other half out for rent after F&F went down. And they have been talking out of both sides of their face for decades.......no nukes no power lines for solar or wind ....no drilling.....and he hasn't said a thing address it.... so thats ones a dead horse....

But in the final analysis, you can't find anyone who would be against going back to Clinton's economy in the 90's, where middle class families earned $7,500 more per year than they are now. So on one hand, individuals never got their $500 extra bucks every year in tax cuts, but instead got an average of $900 more in gains made either from higher wages or the stock market. |

Yeah, who wants Clinton's economy anyway?! All those jobs. All that prosperity. I say leave the past where it belongs, and let's continue deeper into the ditch we've been digging ourselves. |

Can anyone who says that higher taxes kill jobs please point to a moment in American history where higher taxes killed jobs. Thanks?

As far as a macroeconomic analysis, I know about as much about economics as Mccain, so I'm less interested in prognosticating and giving my 2 cents about the details and am more interested in the evaluation by real economic experts.
