Anyways, it would be a shame of dimensions if this travelling item game are gonna go down the toilet just because of him, so I guess we need ourselves a new coordinator, and collector of adresses. I have already suggested it to Traveler and Mrs M, but if some other trustworthy person are up for it, then please say so!

We could of course wait a week more for pram to show up, but I doubt he is likely to come back...
Okay guys, Traveler is now the new coordinator of this travelling item game instead of pram! So for those of you who are still up for this; please send your adress to him so we can get this thing going!

re: The USPOL Traveling Item

So friends - now must be the perfect time for me to post the first line of all the pictures I took last week of our official USPOLiTiger! Fennica is next on the travelling item list I might add.

First some funny pics I took of it outside my dads house. The tall roof building was originally designed for building and testing those gigantic piano things with pipes sticking out that you will find in many churches around here. I used to live here too from age 4 to 11, until my parents finally (and fortunately) got divorced.

View from the porch...

Posing on daddys old Rolls Royce - a 1936 model picked up in England long time ago...

Taking the steering wheel...

To be continued later...

re: The USPOL Traveling Item

I have send the travelling tiger to Fennica today, and it only costed me 11 Euros.

I have put a little gift in the box for him as well, and I think its a good concept with a little gift for the next recipient.

Anyway, one thing that we had going before the forum was closed down by the owners was what we called the "travelling teddy." This was a stuffed monkey that one of our members in the UK had purchased, and we were passing along from member to member (among those who had signed up beforehand) around the world. It had actually made it all across Europe, to Australia and New Zealand, and then to Canada and finally to the US before the guy that got it dropped off the planet and the teddy was lost.

Given our fairly diverse, more adult membership, I thought that it might be kind of cool to try something like this among the USPOL membership, and I'd volunteer to coordinate.

The way it would go is that I'd go buy something (still to be decided), and then take a picture or a few of the object and somewhere that shows something about where I live; the top of Loveland pass, or Aspen, or something along those lines. I'd then box up the object, and send it on to the next member on the list, who'd do the same thing, etc. With the teddy, we actually had people adding a little decoration to him as well; we had a flag from a Danish Home Guard uniform, etc.

So, if we're able to recruit several members, I'd like to go ahead and serve as the coordinator. I'd collect addresses (no, I wouldn't send hate mail or distribute them), organize the route, deal with issues that come up, etc.

My thoughts on the object have gone back and forth. The stuffed monkey took more interesting pictures, but it occurred to me that maybe a book in which we could all write something, and which ultimately would end up with Marc as a momento of the forum would be kind of cool.

At this time, if you think you'd be interested, please indicate such on the poll. We do have international members, so indicate if you'd be willing to ship internationally, either within the continent you're on (i.e. Canada - US, within EU) or just domestically. If you're not interested, well, that's OK, too!

Nice idea. I'd volunteer.

It reminds of a film some might have seen, a French film which made it to the US - Amélie Poulain. Amélie's father is a boring old fellow who never leaves his house, his garden and his garden dwarfs. One night, upset with her father's indifference to the world outside, she steals the dwarf from his garden, hands it over to her stewardess girlfriend who takes it with her on her international flights.

From then on, Amélie's father, completely puzzled, keeps getting postcards from his garden dwarf, and pictures from the dwarf in foreign places, the statute of liberty in the background, the pyramides of Egypt etc. a garden dwarf who travels all over the word while he stays at home.

The last sequence of the film is one my favourite : Amélie's father, with suit and suitcase, calls a taxi to drive him to the "international airport".

Indeed it is. Just send your home adress to Traveler, and you can still get on the wagon...
