Be careful on giving that advice Pram, Ibuprofen is a good way to knock off a hangover probably but if the person has asthma its a disasterous combination that could have fatal consequences. (With all the alcohol already in the body). Obviously you already know that but others might not.

Codine based meds may lead to other complications but the one thing to be most weary of is that medication like that will only be made stronger by large amounts of alcohol being consumed around the time, so if it was only 3 hours ago be warned it may equate to more than the dosage limits so if you're allowed to take 2 every 4 hours then take one instead or maybe every 6 hours instead.

Of course, on the ambulance it was oxygen, 2L of IV fluid, and an amp of 50% dextrose.
For just a hangover? Or for being kocked out from drinking or alcohol poisoning or something like that?

A drip i can understand...but the need for oxygen is worrying.

Absolutely spot on Miranda....

Anything with wheat or grain (gluten sometimes) should help knock off a hangover apparently, which is probably why corn chips and Doritos are popular to snack on while drinking beer.

Anything that has yeast in it as food will counter act beer but you probably need to eat a few hours before drinking for it to take effect....

Also try drinking very fine liqors if that's what you drink, clear pale ones which are smooth, like Miranda said, no mixing that shit together! Also try drink a glass or small bottle of cold water between shots or drinks to stay hydrated and you should be okay the next day so long as you get enough sleep.

I have never once had a hangover or felt sick from liqor (which is remarkable given how much i've drunk over the years, and probably why i kept doing it too) and i credit that mainly to getting enough sleep during the night once the drinking is finished. If you get woken up in the middle of the night or even worse, early in the morning you'll likely barf up a load of what you drank. (Get your full quota of sleep and wake up naturally if possible).

As for the next day, more bread, more water, greasy food can work, and if that doesn't work, just start drinking again. Sometimes a hot shower can work, sweat it out. And I see its already been mentioned, but bud can work as well.

I'm sorry about your job.
Not sure about the other stuff as i've never had a hangover like i said above but the advice on eating bread and drinking single colored liqors at a time is advice given by most medics and docs, and drinking water between drinks seems to keep folks hydrated.

Seeing as you lost your job Melanie and if this may become a regular habbit now and then until you get another job, try and follow that and get your full quota of sleep and you should be okay.

Thanks... but I think that drinking will do me for another 2-3 months...

The mixing of the drinks wasn't really planned. I started with Capt and coke then a friend of mine showed up and wanted to do shots. Beeam is about the only thing I can shoot.... and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP... That is what I did.... I will take Miranda's advice next time with the bread. I never used to get this sick, but it seems the older I get the worse it is.

Re: What is your hangover cure?

Here's some tips from a former liquor salesman.

When you are drinking, alternate drinks with a glass of water or soda water. This will keep you from getting dehydrated and "Swilling" booze at the end of the night.
Drink vodka and soda, it doesn't have sugar, and sugar really magnifies the hangover.
Stick to one drink for the night, mixing stuff just aggravates it.
Before bed aspirin or ibuprofen (not Tylenol, mixing that with alcohol is bad for yer liver, and you're already beating it up pretty good at this point), washed down with three glasses of water.

And for breakfast, Gazpacho.

I'm sorry for your troubles, seems like the night's indulgence seems to have shaken you up.

I have known folks who have drunk so damn much that they all but give up (they feel so bad hey vow never to drink again) but if it is still effecting you a few days on maybe it is time to lay off the heavy stuff for a while...?

I used to drink so much back in my drinking days (underage too to boot) that had it been anyone else they would have likely had drunken outbursts and started slurring their speech. It was to the level of 12 to 15 units a night at one point with an average of 8 to 10 every single night of the week.

For a sub 100 pound guy, that's a lot of liqor....though there must be something up with my body because i barely felt it.

I never got drunk or hungover and thus i kept doing it, maybe a night of what you had lately may have kicked me to my senses sooner but that's all over for me thankfully. (Though i did replase lately due to some extenuating circumstances that saw me fall into the habbit of cocaine, cigars and heavy 180 proof burbon...not good).

I dunno if Miranda knows from experience or is just aware of the issues regarding being hungover, but the gal knows what she's on about...my mom is a 25 year veteran of medice (most of it spent as a surgeon though) and Miranda put down everything my mom has said over the years in lehman's terms.

One note on the sleep...if it feels like you're about to pass out and no-one is there with you, you may be better calling an ambulance, because there is a slight chance you'll never wake up again if you've drunk that damn much. Sadly it happens all too often. If you do happen to collapse or pass out, if you're not on your side you may likely choke if you throw up which can happen while you're not even fully concious.

I dunno if age is a factor (unless you're hitting past say 60 or so) but if you have any pains in your liver or pancreas area then again maybe best to see a Doc incase you have some toxins in your body you couldn't flush out or some relatively low level of alcohol poisoning. (Taking meds like Ibuprofin will only make it worse though if that is the case).

Wondering what you hangover cure is. I would love to keep SOMETHING in my stomach.

And when I say HAMMERED... I mean.. HAMMERED. The Captain and Mr. Beam don't play well together.
My cure involves not drinking like a moron...

I see it doesn't stop you from posting like one though...

Seriously, if someone asks for advice about their health or well being, being a jerk towards them can be as low as it gets.

Grow up.

Grow up.

Getting 'hammered', drinking to excess and drinking irresponsibly are the hallmarks of stupidity and immature behavior.

As low as it gets is drunk driving or trying to drown your sorrows with booze.

Me posting that this kind of behavior is moronic is not. Drama much?

I'm a drunk!!!! But experience sounds a lot nicer.

@Melanie, that picture you posted with the sign, an old boyfriend had that on a tshirt. Hmm...come to think of it, he wore that shirt on our first date.

I imagine that the creator of this thread is looking for expedient advice as opposed to motherly sermonizing. You'll probably get a better response to your clucking at a PTA meeting or the knitting circle.

Its funny you should mention this, i figure a glass of something strong mixed in with a line of coke and something like baking soda to make the liqor fizz up is a solution i have seen before.

It kind of mixes the "more drinking" aspect with "drugs" all in one...

Also mixing in pills/medicine with the alcohol does the trick for some. I've seen a spoof of it on a comedy once and i'm trying to get a link to it to show you, but it is kinda nausiating to watch if you don't have the stomach for it!

Well, cocaine or any other drug that stimulates the release of pleasure chemicals is going to make you feel better, hangover or not. Although, if you put cocaine into a soda to drink, the caffeine of the soda would have a much more powerful effect on you than the cocaine would, and caffeine is also good for hangovers because of its effect as an intoxicant and also because it has some effect on the blood vessels in your head that cause headaches. So, if the soda with coke made you feel better, it would probably have little if anything to do with the coke, which you probably wouldn't even notice.

Marijuana is a different animal altogether - I recall reading something once about why it helps with hangovers, but I don't recall what it was exactly.

But, pills/drugs/pot - you shouldn't take any of it just because it's some drug. My comment was just about expediency and not what is actually a reasonable or good idea. And, more drinking is a much better cure than any of those things, anyway.
