Sad that you have to resort to name calling. I think most life forms get "mean" when you try to take what is theirs ... I used to think that mother bears were mean because their cubs were threatened, now I realise they're mother bears because they're mean.

Mother Bears are a good example. They attack anything they see, whether it's threatening their cubs or not, so do most conservatives. If what you claim is your WAS yours I could see your point, but the whole concept of what's "yours" or "mine" is the warp and weft of politics, unless you just want to say it's whatever you're big enough to take and keep (and won't complain when someone bigger comes along)

Anyway, I answered the question, you're derailing the thread.

That is to say I used to think they were normal nice people who thought the world required meaness, now I realise that they may think that too, but only because that is the way they like the world. Their main joy in life is Schadenfreude. As hard as life is the main thrust of everything they want to do is to make it harder for somebody else, sometimes (but certainly not a whole lot) at the cost of making it harder even on themselves. I think that's nucking futs.
post like this , and ones like it by many on this board and most of the boards i go to have turned me more conservative. Seems to me Liberals were the ones getting their lunch money taken in grade school.... probably not true but they have a huge chip on their shoulder. They carry that chip everywhere and cry foul at everything in society. When bush was in in office they did films on how bush stole the election, planned 9/11 , had a master plan to take all the oil in the middle east and hide it in their pillow and of course convert the world to Christianity! Of course every time they are in office they shove their social agenda down every ones throats and call everyone racists or a phobes if they cant accept their "cause dejour" . Then of course the media and most of this board will say that conservatives are narrow minded and cant accept anything other than what they believe. But it to me is really the progressive mind that can not handle anyone not agreeing with them for of course they are more intelligence than everyone on the planet, heck look how obama talks off his nose to us commoners , and if you by chance wont change your mine then they insult you as being stupid or a racist or something, and on posting boards go to spell check of grammar instruction.

So yes i am more and more conservative because of posts and people like the one i have quoted . I have voted for the best candidate my whole life not for a party, in Oregon many times, and in TN voted for the governor 2 who was a democrat. But now i will never vote again for a democrat. Any party that can support and idolize pieces of dung like this president, Nancy Pelosi , Barney Franks and Harry Reid will never get my vote.

I did not think it was possible but I think I've become even more government (fiscal) conservative yet socially liberal than I was before joining USPOL, probably making it even more of a challenge to back a Republican or Democrat these days.

Welcome to libertarianism - fiscally, ultra conservative, socially, ultra liberal.

I'm more liberal because of posts like these. Damn you, endless circle!

Re: How have your views changed since joining USPOL?

Here's one view that I've had that changed: I used to think there was a significant difference in liberals and conservatives. As in, liberals would push to have more equal rights for all and to increase our social liberties and personal freedoms. Conservatives, on the other hand, would take the "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" approach to just about everything, even if it was clearly broken. They'd be less likely to take risks out of the fear that something may go wrong, and this would paralyze them from actually doing anything as far as social improvements and the like.

Now I just realize they can both be equally whiny children who want to shove their views down everyone's throats while hypocritically denying any possible opposing view. They're the same exact person, just wearing a different team's jersey, more prone to pointing the finger rather than look in the mirror.

Yeah but you're only saying that because you think its a problem and needs fixing...if you would just accept it ain't broke, things would be fine.

I agree. But it's hard to blame the passively libertarian, since it's against the law to vote libertarian in many (most?) jurisdictions. It's a shame more people don't realize that (or realize that that's wrong) and try to do something about it.

Although getting back to the OP, I'm actually Less hardcore libertarian. Sometimes reality and/or pragmatism supercede principle.
    Today's forecast: Government corruption.
Tomorrow's forecast: 100% chance of more 'politics as usual'

Maybe it's finally time to vote Libertarian

Re: How have your views changed since joining USPOL?

I may not have changed my positions all that much, but I have learned quite a bit as to how opposing viewpoints view things, as well as learning quite a bit more depth as to why things are they way that they are, and how things work, and why they work the way that they do.

All in all, a good exchange between viewpoints, at least for the most part.
If a man were behind four months on his mortgage and was talking to you about his plans to build an addition on his home you would think him daft and delusional. But in Washington, ignoring a current crisis to discuss grand dreams is called “boldness” and “vision.”
