This will happen on the May 8 primary and it's a shoe-in. We have about 57% support from likely voters, and since not many Democrats will bother to go to the pools because there is no presidential contest, the actual percentage in support should be higher. This will be a great victory for traditional marriage in The Great North State.![]()

That's the point, exactly. Once it's in the Constitution judges won't be able to touch it like they screwed Massachusetts.
By 2050 same sex marriage will be legal in 50 states, by popular acclaim.
The last holdouts, as always will be southern conservative states, but by 2050 they will have the majorities to repeal any obstructing legislation or amendments.
This is because support for same sex marriage continues to rise in public opinion polls, it passed 50% on a national level in 2011.
And think about this, support for an amendment banning same sex marriage in North Caroline is 57%, 20 years ago it would have been 90%, how long before support for repealing this silly amendment hits 57%?
The trend is clear, and it's been trending that way since the issue of marriage equality first surfaced something like 4 decades ago, when support for marriage equality was under 10%.

Do you understand trends?
Same sex marriage polls very poorly among elderly voters, it does much better among younger voters.
Older voters die off, the popular culture of the US embraces gay people, it's the conservative backlash that opposes equality, and that goes away.
In 2050, anti gay marriage crowd will be grouped with the segregationists, in history's dustbin.
Another good point, a law that discriminates can be struck down by a court, even if it is "enshrined" in a state constitution
and the time when the US Constitution could have been amended to ban same sex marriage is long gone.
I'm curious, how does this North Carolina amendment treat marriages performed in another state?
If it doesn't recognize legal marriages performed in another state, it violates equal protection.
Don't be so sure about that goober.
Most of the world is not in favor of homosexuality and does not accept it. It is foolish to think that just because the subsection of America that you deal with sees things one way that everyone else will follow the trend.
I wouldn't lump them in with segregationists either - more like the group which doesn't like mixed race marriage. Believe it or not, that group is fairly large and includes people of ALL races. You'll see much the same with homosexual unions. It will be publicly tolerated, privately reviled and never celebrated - pretty much as it is right now.

Another temporary victory for homophobia. But as the ignorant bigots die off this too will pass. Most young people laugh at the idea of discriminating against homosexuals. The only thing more hilarious is the delusion that homosexual marriage has anything at all to do with the state of heterosexual marriage - which is pretty dismal BTW.
