Democrats: Prepare yourselves for upset

Many Democrats seem convinced that they have the house wrapped up, and that there's a very good chance of taking the senate. Don't start celebrating just yet. Remember the 2004 elections, and how certain we were of a Democrat victory. Then try to remember the awful hangover the next day after loosing. (Just to be clear on where I stand: I would like nothing more than to boot the Reps out of both houses.)

I'm not trying to be overly negative or anthing, I'm just trying to interject a dose of reality. While Democrats may be polling very well nationally right now, we will all be voting in local elections. Just because you may want certain Democrats in other states to win, doesn't mean the voters of that state will vote the way you'd like.

And now John Kerry (Democrat Senator and major assclown) has opened his mouth, and we all know that's never a good thing. Even though the Dems have now gagged him and locked him in a closet until Nov. 8th, the damage of his words has been done. The Republicans are going to try to squeeze every last drop out of that story, and it may just be enough to change the minds of a few Independent voters. I'm not sure if Kerry's comment will have much impact by itself, but it does fit nicely with the Republicans' message of "Democrats are anti-military".

Also bear in mind that the Republicans are still better at motivating their base, getting absentee ballots in, and generally kicking ass in elections.

Avoid the hangover. Be cautiously optimistic.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. I don't really know what that means, since I've never raised chickens, but the phrase seems appropriate.

Although Kerry was a gift from GOD, anyone that predicts the future is sure to be bitten. Nov 8th will be the telling of the truth, although if the Dems lose, the allegations of election fraud will sustain them for ANOTHER two years. (Are you listening. Joao?)

Exactly. Nothing will be certain until Nov 8th. Until then, I'll pretty much keep my mouth shut on who I think will win. Actually, I have no idea who's going to come out on top - but I don't want to jinx anything either by getting overconfident. I try not to be a superstitious person, but I still 'knock on wood' whenever someone says something that's too brazen or cocksure.

Dude, what are you talking about? It's totally a lock that the Democrats are going to clean up both the House and Senate, then 100% for sure take the Presidency in '08. This will ensure decades of rule under the hands of the victorious Democratic party.

I just ruined it, didn't I.

Thankfully (from my perspective) John Kerry basically speaks for the entire Democrat Party, and basically represents what today's Democrat Party thinks. That's why the Democrats picked him to be their standard bearer in 2004.

So while he may be temporarily gagged and locked in a closet, his views fundamentally still represent those of today's Democrat Party.

Well, your opinion really doesn't matter much, because the Democratic party never had your vote in the first place.

Keywords: "from my perspective". From the perspective of many (if not most) Democrats, he doens't speak for them - especially once he lost the election.

Uh, hate to burst your little bubble, but it's not peoples' opinions that matter in an election.

Which is why the Democrats have lost every one of their bids for control of the House ever since the 1992 election, even though you may have been of the opinion that they ought to have won those elections.

If that were true, one Democrat after another would have publicly denounced Kerry's latest slur against our brave men and women in the military. But instead, only a small handful of the Democrats in Congress did so. Most remained silent, thus lending their silent assent to his rude and cruel remarks.

Errr...yes, they do matter.

"In my opinion, Candidate A is better than Candidate B, so I'm going to vote for Candidate A."

People use their votes to express their opinions on relevant issues.

No, it would mean that my opinion was in the minority. However, I was not eligible to vote in those elections, so it doesn't really matter. Who knows who I would've voted for, I don't vote along party lines like some people.

Yeah, just like when the Republicans line up at the podium to denounce a fellow Republican every time he screws up. Give me a break.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned Kerry in this thread. This is the last time I will mention him. There are already enough Kerry threads flying around.
