What does this mean to the Republican party?

I think the Republican party will have to do a bit of soul searching as it trying to reclaim it's identity.

I think this is a positive thing and I think booting the neo-cons out is also a positive thing. The neo-cons have confused the definition of the Republican and it has caused many to vote blue as they try to figure out their own identity.

I'm curious if the neo-cons will prevail in its choke-hold of the party, or if the moderate conservatives will overcome their tactics.

My eye is going to be on the Republican party for the next couple years. It will define what the Republican will either evolve into or revert back to old school moderate conservatism.

Hopefully, this will invigorate the moderates in the party to get control again and marginalize the far-right agenda.

They were an expression of something very fundamental to american politics. Manifest destiny and christian conservatism. I doubt it is over. It will just force them to regroup and try again.

The Emperor has no clothes, people finally figured it out, and that's that for the GOP, until the Democrats blow it.
The GOP lost the carefully cultivated image, and suddenly appeared to be a group of fat, disgusting, corrupt, incompetant pigs.
It will take decades to get that image out of the publics mind, especially after the hearings bring it all out into the open in the next two years. Every congressional committee chairman, both House and Senate, has subpoena power and an axe to grind. And a good set of hearings, that dig up some good dirt, and get a lot of airplay, could propel that committe chair into the Whitehouse.

Oh, boy, some good old fashioned media-whoring!

Hopefully, someone with less naked ambition will remind these committee chairs what happened the last time a bunch of media-hungry politicians started flinging subpoenas around and holding televised hearings with more focus on getting their faces on TV than on actual justice.

That, of course, was the Iran-Contra hearing festival. And because the Congressmen involved were so eager to get their faces on TV, they contaminated the evidence and ensured that every single individual who broke the law walked free.

Unfortunately, they will probably forget that in the rush for glory and TV time and once again set criminals free.

Isn't that something to cheer for?
