Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
Obama would lose the General in a landslide.

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
Name one policy initiative Obama has headed?
Or even one piece of legislation he has authored that has become law? If you are going to pump this "This guy should be your leader" stuff, at least try to justify it. Matt |

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
I agree. He hasn't done much. Unfortunately looks and charisma can get you further with the general public though. I do think he would lose though simply because older people tend to vote and it is sad to say that I know many older people that still would not vote for a black man. I don't think that the majority would vote against something simply because of that but I think the percentage is high enough to make a considerable difference.

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
First of all, who would he be running against? Youse gots to have a candidate Actually, Obama has a gift of gab and surpasses even Bill, BUT I don't think he has the maturity to impress the american public. I truely hope he runs to keep Hilary from running, but I will likely vote for a republican, if a reasonable one comes out of the woodwork. Any that I think of as good candidates aren't yet running (officially) |

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
Not surprisingly, not doing anything would make him an excellent President compared to people like George W. Bush. If we had good leadership, then that is where candidates would have to compete by creating good policies to be better than their opponents. Currently, leadership is abysmal and saying "well, at least I didn't completely fuck up the US and Iraq" makes one a worthy candidate, whereas "not authoring any legislation" makes you one of the best.

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
The guy has a total of like 80 hours on the job in the senate. Regardless of the hype the media is dumping on him, he won't get around that. He will lose the primary. He will not be the Dems pick.

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
Here is Obama's record according to Wiki:
In 1996, Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate from the 13th District in the south side neighborhood of Hyde Park, in Chicago. In January 2003, Democrats regained control of the chamber, and Sen. Obama was named chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.[11] Obama helped to author an Earned Income Tax Credit for the state that provided benefits to the working poor. He also worked for legislation that would cover residents who could not afford health insurance, and helped pass bills to increase funding for AIDS prevention and care programs.[12] In 2000, Obama made an unsuccessful Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives seat held by four-term incumbent candidate Bobby Rush. Rush, a former Black Panther and community activist, charged that Obama hadn't "been around the first congressional district long enough to really see what's going on".[13] Rush received 61% of the vote, while Obama received 30%.[14] After the loss, Obama rededicated his efforts to the state Senate. In his 2002 campaign, he ran unopposed. Obama authored a law requiring police to videotape interrogations for crimes punishable by the death penalty.[5] He also pushed through legislation that would force insurance companies to cover routine mammograms.[15][16] Reviewing Obama's career in the Illinois State Senate, commentators noted his ability to work effectively with both Democrats and Republicans, and to build coalitions.[17][18] In his subsequent campaign for the U.S. Senate, Obama won the endorsement of the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police, whose officials cited his "longtime support of gun control measures and his willingness to negotiate compromises", this despite his support for some bills that the police union had opposed.[19] There is many other things he has been a part of as well: Barack Obama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I agree with Danny. This guy is smart, he is caring, he can read, he can write, he has a genuine desire to make America progressive again. Those are the reasons he will either not make it far, or if he does, he will be assassinated. Andrew

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
The same was said about JFK, and yet he not only won but became an icon in life and death. The gift of the gab and charisma count for alot and can win alone, and if you add brains to that the person can be extremely effective. Alot of POTUSes, even great ones such as Washington and Lincoln, similarly had short experience as elected officials.

Re: I can listen to Barak Obama speak all day long
If JFK had not run on War-Hero status....which is said to still remain the largest media campaign of any US veteran, he would not have won.
While I think it is ridiculous to compare Obama to JFK as you just did, I will be glad to show you the EXTREME differences that were all in JFKs favor, and NONE in Obama's. Obama is the most unremarkable flatliner senator in office. He has no gimmick or hero-status to help him along. Once his record and experience begin to come to light, he will lose in a huge way.
