Fox News.... WOW

I admit, I used to watch Fox News... often. When I was in college and didn't know any better.

So I tuned to Fox News yesterday to see the post State of the Union address commentary and what I saw was shocking. I mean, back when I watched Fox News, they were biased and unfair too but it was nowhere close to the current level.

First of all, no Fox News achor would go more than five minutes without stabbing the Democrats in the backs. As in: Boy, the President is great, he has great plans... what will the Democrats do to stop this great man and the great vision for America?

Among the things I heard on Fox that is known to be wrong:

Fox: GM and Ford got screwed in negotiating union workers' health plan. Bush's plan will help corporations like Ford and GM.

Facts: Ford re-negotiated with the union over a year ago and saved $850 millions in the process. GM also got a similar deal with their union. Not discussed is the reason for the government to jump in and intrude on private business. If you overpaid for your house, would the government jump in and give you a break? Then why should private corporations get intruded upon? Bad deals are part of the Laissez-faire that Republicans often preached but rarely followed.

Fox: the Democrats want us to leave Iraq right now!

Facts: most Democrats prefer a phased withdraw. Note the term "phased withdraw." No prominent Democrat has ever proposed we just pack up and leave tomorrow. Many favors a phased withdraw that last more than two years and up the level of training for the Iraqis poice and military during the phased withdraw. Some also favor a re-deployment that stations our troops either just outside of Iraq or in less hostile part of Iraq, and of course, to Afghanistan.

Fox: No one has a plan for Iraq. This president has a plan.

Fact: No one has a plan? Does the Iraq Study Group rings any bell?

Fox: If America put worth its maximum effort, resource, and dedication to this war, we can win it.

Fact: I agree we can win it if we dump our "maximum" into it. But talk about an incompete thought. The "minimum" that is needed to secure Bagdad as estimated by leaders who successfully rebuild Bosnia is 400,000 troops at about $20 billions US dollars a day. Where are we going to get the troops and who is going to pay for it? Will Fox News support a military draft? Will Murdock shoulders some of the cost of the war increase?

And that's just in 30 minutes of viewing and just the things I know off the top of my head. Who knows how much garbage and spins were embedded that I didn't catch. Now I understand how some of the conservatives on this board are so, well, less informed than the average citizens.

Re: Fox News.... WOW

I heard a rumor that Fox News is fair and balanced. I've seen no evidence to support this rumor.

Re: Fox News.... WOW

That's typically the conservative way I've noticed. they will make a statement and follow it up by some sort of insult. They can't stand up and defend any issue, so they think if they stay on the offensive they won't have too. Just keep checking threads here. They will stay on topic until someone of the righty variety starts insulting liberas/democrats/lefties. they are not interested in finding the best solution. They are interested in keeping power and steering the country towards their interests.

I don't watch Fox. That means I can't comment on their non-stop campaign of distortion and misinformation? I'll keep your comment in mind when I check my stfu meter.

That was unfair I shouldn't say conservatives...I should say certain conservatives on this message board. I wasn't trying to be insulting. I was just making an observation about the debate style I see by a lot of people. Majority of those being conservatives..some Liberal types do this too, but since I am one I don't want to call them out. Some people might observe the opposite way. It gets frustrating because it just derails the topics and they end up being 30 pages of libera/conservative debate and the topic is avoided.

I am not guilt free. I will respond with conservative slander when confronted with liberal slander. It has however gottena lot better since I found the ignore list feature. I do respect a lot of the conservative opinions on this board. I am more interested in possibly trying to find solutions and agree to disagree if thats what it comes to. No threads really offer an closure or soklution. They end up being 40 pages of the same debates over and over.

What hypocrisy from Scarywoody, Robert? Care to expand on that and give US some concrete and verifiable examples?

Re: Fox News.... WOW

I watched about three minutes of the commentary.

I was pretty disgusted so I switched channels. After the Dem response, I just turned the TV off.

Read his post again and put some thought into it.

Although to his credit he did respond to my post in an intelligent and honest manner which I admire.

Re: Fox News.... WOW

Anyone who questions Fox's bias only needs to hearken back to the lead-up to the 2004 election when Fox ran a "count down" showing the "number of days until President Bush is re-elected". Note, it wasn't counting down the number of days to the election but until their favoured son was re-elected.

If you don't watch it, then how would you expect to see evidence to support or disprove on it being fair and balanced ?

Oops, I just heard someone's stfu meter ringing..
