Re: Does McCain have a chance?

I doubt he'll get anywhere as a presidential candidate, but I could see him running as Fred Thompson's VP candidate.

I've heard talk of a Thompson/Romney ticket.

It might be, but I think McCain would be a more logical choice. Thompson and McCain are close, so close that one of the main reasons Thompson hasn’t yet decided to run is because he doesn’t want to have to run against McCain. McCain brings the military service that Thompson lacks. (Romney may also have military service, but not as much has been made about it in the media.) They both have a reputation for being “mavericks.” Since the left and the media has been so successful at painting Bush as a hardcore conservative, that would give the ticket a way to distance themselves from Bush’s low approval ratings. Lastly, McCain scores considerable higher in the polls then Romney.

Well, it's not a stance that will win a General Election, it's not even working in the Republican primaries, and it will have even less appeal as the war drags on another year.

Re: Does McCain have a chance?

I would suggest that no, McCain won't win the nomination, as he has been rapidly losing momentum over the past few months, whilst guys like Romney, et al. have been rapidly picking up momentum. The only thing going in McCain's favour really is that the GOP generally nominates the front runner from the outset. I think though that both sides will probably nominate someone who didn't take a public stance on the war as a means ensuring their appeal to both sides.

Well he did have that affair with a black woman and fathered a black child, remember.

Ask Karl Rove. He knows all about it.

Irony?

I think that McCain's got no shot at all. He's too old, and has said too many dumb things.

Followed by his eloquent defense of it to all concerned, "Get a life."

Follwed by his alarming showing on Jon Stewart last night. (He's losin' it)

That was incredible.

You're right, his sanity is in question.
