Faith gets politican by

Without peeking, who said:

Quote:
"I am very grateful that I had a grounding in faith that gave me the courage and the strength to do what I thought was right, regardless of what the world thought,"
No peeking now.

she's early. You're not supposed to try to appeal to the religious until you get close to the religious holidays

I was a little stumped at first, but as I focused on the part in bold I realized that the last part narrowed down my options.

It was either Dodd or Hitlery. I figured that no one would waste time trying to sling mud at somebody who's unlikely to do anything in the future, so that leaves Hillarious.

Was the comment by Hillary Clinton?

Re: Faith gets politican by

Bingo.

I wonder where the folks who were all spastic about Bush claiming to be directed by God will be on this one?

"grounding in faith that gave me the courage and the strength to do what I thought was right" is a far cry from:
"I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did." or:
"I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."

Having said that, I am always irritated when politicians of either party bring up their religious faith. Until I see one who actually acts like a christian, I really don't want to hear their sanctimonious claims of faith or closeness to god.

Ssssh Tim, don't point out the obvious. You're only allowed to be partisan when discussing the Clinton's. Bush is sacred ground when it comes to religion here.

Please, Noahath, if Bush had said exactly what Hillary said, there would be a hue and cry. We both know it.

Frankly, I am tired of politicians of all stripes parading their faith around as though it were relevant to their job functions.

I personally am not thrilled about how much God talk gets mixed up in government from either side so count me as one.

Re: Faith gets politican by

I find myself guided by my faith too. That doesn't mean I think that I have God on line 3 all the time.

I am not a fan of Hillary, but she's not really at all saying the same thing as Dubya has said in the past.

Re: Faith gets politican by

i watched the news tonight running......totally was flabergasted that the 3 key liberal candidates would venture out talking about faith

the base of the left is pretty faith burned right now, they are all about bashing it due to bushism....yet all 3 stepped up and talked about their faith and the importance of it

for hillary i know it was pandering , she would say anything to get elected, I think Obama and edwards were honest IMO

but in the end i dont think it is gonna change their base..........and isnt the primaries about that? isnt this stretch of the campaign feeding the base?

I wonder why though the general public place so much emphasis on a politicians talking about religion? I would much rather have a politician who doesn't sprout their convictions at every opportunity but rather let's their actions speak for them. It's verging on hypocritical that politicians on both sides pander to the religious right. Why aren't ardent person of religion pis*sed off with politicians telling them what they want to hear, rather than practising it? Why are the voters who are concerned with religion only seemingly interested in politicians using words rather than actions? Why is a politician who does their job well, lives a good and productive life, is honest and treats others fairly less well-received than someone who simply stands up and uses "God" in every second or third sentence? The modern media and communication age has certainly given rise to the notion of "style over substance", as as voters we give further credence to that by supporting politicians who say what we want to hear, rather than do what we want them to do.

Anyway, getting back on topic. I've just started wondering (and it's prob a ludicrous thought as I doubt Hilary would be that sacrificial) if Hilary is really intent on running for President, or if there is something else behind it, say Majority Leader? I mean, EVERY poll conducted to date shows her storming to the Dem nomination but losing the general. I wonder if she is being put out in front to draw the fire and heat from the other nominees?

I wouldn't be so quick to characterize the base as a cohesive unit. I can almost guarantee that I'll be somewhat to the left of any candidate (except maybe Dennis Kucinich), but as I said, I don't particularly mind them talking about their faith.

Heh. If we were a cohesive unit we would win more often.
