John Kerry--GOP prospect

LOL, well, he was anyway. This document was just released that shows that Kerry was being prospected by the GOP during his anti-war speeches before Congress. History is indeed ironic looking at how those speeches were used against him in 2004 by the party that prospected him. Then again, when reading the letter, it shows that irony in politics is often intentional because parties (GOP in this case) and politicians (Kerry in denial mode today on his views on Democrats then) once again prove to be always willing to shape-shift to suit personal agendas.

Re: John Kerry--GOP prospect

Kerry has been a major asset for the Republican party. This isn't all that surprising.

Re: John Kerry--GOP prospect

I agree with Matt that this is funny. I also find it quite sad. IMO, it goes to show there really isn't any difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. They can't even tell each other apart. I also think that it is a good example of how people hear a person's view on one issue and are ready to declare what side of the partisan line they fall on. Pathetic how people jump to conclusions or are so narrow-minded, focusing on one issue. We see it here all day, everyday.

Very much so. She was Hugh Rodman's daughter of a staunch Republican family.

Goldwater was of the old school GOP, namely libertarian. Today, he would have much more in common with the Democrats except for a strong hind kick on social programming. The struggle back then was more of classical liberalism (libertarianism in American understanding and more or less the then GOP) versus the then socially conservative but populist Dem party.

In the new school, he'd be though of generally as a liberal as many libertarians often are by the Religious Right and social conservatives who currently dominate in the GOP, which in turn has been slowly realigning the libertarian minded with the Dems as a lesser of two evils and gradually making it more libertarian with time.

In 1994, as today seen as a precient observation looking at how things have developed since then depending on one's point of view, Goldwater lamented the rise of the Religious Right to dominate the GOP:

Quote:
The oldest philosophy in the world is conservatism, and I go clear back to the first Greeks. ... When you say 'radical right' today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."
Her health care proposal excepted, he said the following about Hillary Clinton when Bill was in office:

Quote:
If he'd let his wife run business, I think he'd be better off. ... I just like the way she acts. I've never met her, but I sent her a bag of chili, and she invited me to come to the White House some night and said she'd cook chili for me. Someday, maybe.

Re: John Kerry--GOP prospect

Interesting. Goldwater turns left eh? Too bad the Democratic party is taking sharp right turns.

Then again, a some people say Goldwater won the presidential election, it only took 16 years to count the votes...
