I bet you would get a ton of votes with that approach
I would hope the person would be mature enough to see a joke for a joke. Though, with the example you and others are setting, I guess maturity is sorely lacking in this country.

You're kidding right ? You are talking about Maturity regarding a 70+ year old man who calls a young high school boy
": an annoyingly stupid or foolish person : an unlikable person; especially : one who is cruel, rude, or small-minded"
in a public forum and castigating those who believe it was wrong to have done this?

Me thinks your Partisan blinders are on too tight.

Oh for fuck sake. I am not a McCain supporter, nor do I support any of the Republican candidates. So spare me the "partisan blinders" bullshit.

He called the high school kid that in JEST. Which means he didn't fucking mean it.

Just to help you out.

joke:
1. Something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line.
2. A mischievous trick; a prank.
3. An amusing or ludicrous incident or situation.
4. Informal
a. Something not to be taken seriously; a triviality
b. An object of amusement or laughter; a laughingstock

Lighten up.

Call it the "Kerry principle".

If you're a stiff public speaker, don't make jokes.

I don't recall anyone cutting Kerry or Senator Allen any slack for their botched jokes.

McCain's campaign is toast.

Also an age of where people question a woman's ability to drive a car too, should we apply that same standard to say the campaign of a candidate for President like say Hillary? If you count her as a woman that is.

Excepting FDR of course.

Do you read what you post before you post it? This one makes you look rather more foolish than usual.

Reminds me of the Republican primary of 2000.

But, I personally see this as a non-issue. It makes for a horrible sound-byte, but, who cares, really?

Damn good point. That was when I first realised that Bush was a slimeball when he attacked McCain like that. Absolutely disgusting - and after that, nothing from GWBush is very surprising at all.

mccain pummeled by high school students

AZ Sen. john mccain, in a (supposed) effort to boost his poll ratings--proudly demonstrated his mental midgetry and temper-tantrum problems before a crowd of high school students in New Hampshire. . .

In an opening remark, the Senator lost his cool, calling a student a jerk. . .

Quote:

Later, mccain responded to a question about gays in the military, never really addressing the issue, claiming instead that he would enforce his own personal beliefs, then attempted a weak comeback when a student had the audacity to concisely rephrase what he meant. . .

Quote:
"I believe that the sanctity of marriage between man and woman is unique and should be preserved, and I understand the controversy that swirls around that issue, and that debate needs to be continued to be held, but I support that position," McCain said.

"You want to take away someone's rights because you believe it's wrong," Sleaster followed up.

"I don't put that interpretation on my position, but I understand yours," McCain responded, seeming to enjoy the back and forth.

"I came here looking to see a good leader. I don't," Sleaster said before leaving the microphone to some boos and gasps from the audience and an eventual scolding by a school administrator.

Of course, the senile (sorry, senior) senator is certainly well-versed in the sociopolitical terminology of the day. . .

Quote:
Another student then asked McCain a question about what he would do for rights for "LGBTs" -- lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. McCain was confused by the question and acknowledged to the audience that he did not know what the initials meant.

To be true, there are young people that (fortunately) just take it to him. . .

Quote:
“The senator does not reflect the ideals upon which this university was founded,” Rohe proclaimed to loud cheers, with McCain sitting just a few feet away.

She added that she knew what McCain would be saying to the graduates since he had promised to deliver the same speech he gave at Rev. Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University last weekend and Columbia University on Tuesday.

“He will tell us we are young and too naive to have valid opinions,” Rohe said. “I am young and though I don’t possess the wisdom that time affords us, I do know that pre-emptive war is dangerous. And I know that despite all the havoc that my country has wrought overseas in my name, Osama bin Laden still has not been found, nor have those weapons of mass destruction.”
