Re: mccain pummeled by high school students

there’s another thread on this somewhere, i’m not that scandalized by mccain’s comments, to tell you the truth -- i think the question asked him was an appropriate question but asked inappropriately, and his response seems to be in jest. although the “you’re drafted” comment is sorta strange -- i’m not sure what he meant by that.

as someone who finds mccain’s politics almost uniformly objectionable, i have to admit that out of the republican camp he’s probably among the candidates i like most. at least you do get the impression he says what he means, and isn’t providing the same market-tested pap candidates on both sides are doling out.

i guess he’s sorta like ron paul that way. among the dems, joe biden and dennis kucinich are my favorites for similar reasons. (although kucinich’s politics are about as unrealistic as mccain’s are unpalatable.) anyway, unfortunately, that’s probably why none of these guys will win. edwards, clinton, obama and all the other republican guys have a very bland, polished package and for some reason that seems to have become a prerequisite to getting taken seriously.

Re: mccain pummeled by high school students

Solletica, when I want to read a steamy pile of horseshit, it's nice to know I need not look further than one of your posts...

His entire response, which you conveniently omit, was all given tongue-in-cheek. Like a good little bed-wetting lib, though, you take one portion of the response and make a lame attempt to spin it into something it wasn't. I've not heard a single person, conservative or liberal, who's characterized McCain's response as him "losing his temper...

Later, mccain responded to a question about gays in the military, never really addressing the issue, claiming instead that he would enforce his own personal beliefs, then attempted a weak comeback when a student had the audacity to concisely rephrase what he meant. . .
And he mistakenly rephrased what the Senator said. The Senator was quite open and frank about his opinion on the matter...

Quote:
Of course, the senile (sorry, senior) senator is certainly well-versed in the sociopolitical terminology of the day. . .
The only people who honestly give a fuck about that "label" is people who are gay, transgender, lesbian, or bisexual.

See, the rest of us just don't fucking care...

Quote:
Of course this isn't the first time mccain has had the big hollow in his head exposed. To be true, there are young people who crack it open themselves and let the world see it. . .
Again, steamy piles of horseshit.

What's really funny is this part:

“He will tell us we are young and too naive to have valid opinions,” Rohe said. “I am young and though I don’t possess the wisdom that time affords us, I do know that pre-emptive war is dangerous. And I know that despite all the havoc that my country has wrought overseas in my name, Osama bin Laden still has not been found, nor have those weapons of mass destruction.”

His failure, of course, is to acknowledge that, if time affords one wisdom, then McCain must be overflowing with it. It's fine to disagree with an opinion. It's childish and immature to act as they, and you Solletica, have done...

I just watched the YouTube video.

^frankly, im surprised your defense of mccain is so vociferous. he might be in favor of escalation in iraq but he is definitely highly critical of the bush administration...

I think it was just a bad joke. Not very presidential thing to do. But nothing in the scale of the campaign.

So why does my defense of McCain surprise you?

Your defense of McCain here is about as interesting as those who sought to defend Kerry's botched joke. No one wants to hear it.

Beating your head against the wall would likely be more productive.

Why not? All candidates should be held to the SAME standard, and a higher one at that. If you're applying for a job as the most powerful person on the planet then I think it's more than reasonable that it becomes less a personality contest and more a capability contest. If all candidates are held to the same, higher standard and it turns out that McCain is the best person - great! But at least the decision has been made on the quality and caliber of the candidates.

Re: “Thanks for the question, you little jerk … you’re drafted.”

This incident happened a few miles down the road. His attempt at banter with a kid, it worked I guess live, but in print it doesn't look so good. My guess is McCain will be forced out pretty soon for lack of $. His best shot came in 2000, but he was derailed by Bush/Rove in the south, with their phone campaign insinuating that he "had a black baby".

McCain really wants to be Pres so he can start wars and play like the Neocon big boys in the White House.

However, since that will never happen, what we can do is buy him a GI Joe set. That'll keep him occupied--most pols like him can't tell the difference between a plastic soldier and a real one.

Re: “Thanks for the question, you little jerk … you’re drafted.”

I haven't seen this event pick up any news. I haven't even seen it alleged as an impropriety by the Democrats. The first I heard of it was here. The reason seems simple to me: McCain was clearly joking with the kid given the kid raised his age as a factor, the same way older people jest back at such things. I often roll my eyes when right wing radio personalities try to make an issue out of nonissues by stretching statements incredulously in the hopes of inventing a bogus scandal and I wonder why they waste their time with many gimmicks that will never sell except for entertaining the dreams of the already fervently converted who think others might be fooled by obvious misrepresentations. There are plenty of genuine issues to be debated but this isn't one of them.
