Second best choice to Ron Paul on the GOP ticket - It doesn't really matter, He doesn't have a chance.

I often roll my eyes when right wing radio personalities try to make an issue out of nonissues by stretching statements incredulously in the hopes of inventing a bogus scandal and I wonder why they waste their time with many gimmicks that will never sell except for entertaining the dreams of the already fervently converted who think others might be fooled by obvious misrepresentations. There are plenty of genuine issues to be debated but this isn't one of them.

That might have something to do with the source you view.
I provided a link to a major MSM source that did report this incident.

That's how right wing talk shows sell, by "entertaining the dreams of the already fervently converted who think others might be fooled by obvious misrepresentations."

That's true, but they make their money by whoop-hollering already fervently Republican audiences. I very much doubt Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc, create converts to any material degree, meaning those who weren't moving over on their own anyway. I look upon them as being akin to sports team fan clubs. You'll find fervent fans amongst them, but no one cheering who isn't already a fan.

Probably something like this

YouTube deletes video of McCain singing 'Bomb Iran' | CNET News.com
YouTube confirmed Friday that it had erroneously deleted and would restore a video of presidential candidate John McCain
singing an impromptu ditty about starting a war with Iran.

YouTube - McCain laughs, Sings Bomb Iran

I'm defending McCain because the criticism of him, for this particular incident, is stupid.

Know this: McCain will never get my vote because of his position on a "guest worker program".

Yes, illegals are human beings. They just need to be human beings elsewhere...

I'm straining to find the humor in Sen John McCain's retort to this High School student.
Is this the style and temperment the American people want in a Leader ?
Was this John McCain's Maccaca moment ?
Not that it matters. Senator Mccain's chances at winning the nomination sailed long ago.

His chances of keeping his Senate seat in 2010 sailed long ago, too (thank God!)

I find that hard to believe, considering Steve voted twice (in 2000 and 2004) for a Pres who also supported guest worker programs, as well as a plan to grant amnesty to 8 million illegals

A good deal of time, though, I suspect that the Natives will have the last laugh on this one concerning illegal immigration, leaving anti-illegal immigrant Republicans whinging until the cows come home. That's not a dig at you or anyone, but an honest and objective observation of what I see as reality.

Money and power talks, and a large number of businessmen make their money with illegals. That is why they are here. It's no accident why the borders are open for illegal entry but the legal avenues are stingy--the government wants a huge illegal labour force to exploit. The Dems get a benefit with their Latino voter base and other things whilst the GOP gives that to their business base.

Treating talk for what it is, when the GOP controlled the reigns of government with Bush and Congress, illegals poured in despite cries from the base to stop it. They obviously ignored the base, throwing the laws, the voter base and national security to the side.

The only answers I see are money plus the Latino voters. They got to power by making inroads with Latinos who oppose tight restrictions. They lose without maintaining them. Bush's outreaches got voters for him and Congress in 2004, and the backlash helped lose them in 2006 and will likely prove fatal for 2008 unless they talk the talk to get the native anti-illegals base but walk another walk to keep the business and Latino supporters. A crackdown will drive away business donors and voters. Money is what counts there. It's no accident why pork and spending also ran rampant in the face of the traditional 'small government' platform when they got control. Donors want a payback. Few pay for ideology that hurts their pocket.

I suspect the main power brokers know if they promise the basic costless talking points like family values, etc, that the base will still see them as the lesser evil than the Democrat candidate and still pull the voting lever. There is even money to be made with 'family values' insofar as doling out programme money to supporters.

Whether 'common joe' GOP voters are satisfied with the spending, immigration situation, etc, won't matter to much to them. They'll talk the talk, blame the Dems even though they haven't done anything themselves when they could, and otherwise look to placate irreconcilable subgroupings of the GOP with empty promises and platitudes on immigration, spending, etc. I haven't paid much attention to Ron Paul but tonight I heard him say the traditional GOP points about small government and it got guffaws from the rest plus the FOX News hosts. All that told me was that the old party line is dead on those aspects, except for saying them without sincerity. There is just too much money to be made and Big Brother/Big Spender is the what donors are paying to get, and that is what counts literally and figuratively.

Illegal immigrant cheap labour is part of it. The evidence of them in all my locally Republican owned businesses, shops, restaurants, bars and yards proves it everyday. They'll keep doing that and expect--with good cause--that their main guy will get the votes anyway.

All talk aside, anti-illegal GOPers may complain, but will they stay home or vote third party or will they vote whoever is the GOP guy to avoid Hillary or Obama? I bet they'll hold their nose and vote the GOP person. I'm sure the guys in charge know that too.
