WRONG. To be a hero, one has to do something that significantly helps other people.

Being tortured is pretty crummy, but it doesn't make one a hero.

Outside of that, all mccain did in the military is help bomb women and children in a Third World jungle where US forces weren't even wanted. That helped no one; all it did was waste taxpayer money.

Actually, the relevant question is what an educated person sees as a hero (as opposed to the typical GOP loon gets a hard on every time the US invades or bombs another country).

Of course not. He joined the US military. That pretty much disqualifies him for hero status in today's world.

Are you then saying that the people who serve in our armed forces are not heros? Are you suggesting that instead of being honored for their selfless service they should be derided? Have you been in the military. Have you experienced, first hand, the pain and angst that most of our service members have to go through on a daily basis? Do you have any clue what it means to give your life in service to people who at best don't have a clue who you are, and at worst would spit on you given the chance? Your derision for our servicemember demonstrates ignorance, naivete, and bitterness at your inferiority.
