USPO Republican Presidential Candidate Poll 10/09/07

Ok, I just finished watching tonight's debate. I'm just wondering where people on this board are when it comes to the Republicans. If you were to vote in the Republican primary tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Based on their positions on illegal immigration, it comes down to two guys for me: Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo. I know Hunter, so he gets my vote if I were to go to the polls tomorrow...

Re: USPO Republican Presidential Candidate Poll 10/09/07

I'd probably vote for Romney. I voted for him in your poll there. I would also consider voting for Thompson, but it'll depend what his electability looks like come primary season.

That said, I don't know if I'll be voting for a Republican for president.

I don't love any of the Democratic candidates, but I think we need to clean house in the coming election. I think four more years of any Republican pursuing the current agenda (or anything approximating it) will do far more harm than anything a Democrat can do by trying to overcompensate in the other direction (which I fully expect to happen).

I can live with Hillary for four years and I could probably stomach Obama. John Edwards would be a tough pill to swallow.

I would have loved to see Evan Bayah or Mark Warner run. If either of them had entered the race I would have officially switched parties and gotten behind him.

Mike Huckabee, because of his strong support for the Fair Tax. The differences were striking between the candidates on taxes in the debate last night. From business as usual to Brownback saying the system sucks so much we should have two in the form of an optional flat tax. Hows that for even more complicated?

I haven't really studied the candidates' positions enough that I would actually feel comfortable voting, but I've liked what I've seen/read about Ron Paul.

I was really liking Huckabee until it became obvious that he would support the corrupt and hateful Christian Coalition agenda.

This forum appears to be rather representative of internet opinion polls (Paul scores highly) - and totally unrepresentative of Republican primary voters (where Paul scores very low).

*I did not vote in the poll.

Re: USPO Republican Presidential Candidate Poll 10/09/07

I don't agree with him on everything, but I would vote for Ron Paul for President. And I'm a liberal. He is very clearheaded about his approach to the Middle East. Unlike the childish and fairy tale approaches of every other candidate on the Republican side, he understands why Al Qaeda has the grudge against America that it does. To many simpleminded Republicans, they think that means he's apologizing for the terrorists, but he's not at all. He's done his homework and understands that Al Qaeda wants the U.S. out of Saudi Arabia, out of Iraq, and to take a neutral position concerning Israel and Palestine. And that's the common sense thing to do since the blowback for the mistaken foreign policy of the government gets handed down to innocent American citizens.

I felt the debate was quite boring. Fred Thompson brings nothing new. He doesn't seem to have prepared himself whatsoever.

Mostly I find it appalling that the candidates from this party and the candidates from the other party are basically running to represent two different countries. Mitt Romney was asked about what the biggest challenge was for America and he said, "a sense of optimism". I wanted to throw something at my tv since that's such a sentimental Republican thing to say. There are such major challenges facing America today, and all these guys complain about is that Democrats seem pissed with the poor Republican leadership and the lies of the past 6 years. All they want to do is blow sunshine up everybody's asses, keep the war going cause we're going to win any day now, and project confidence! Smile! America is awesome! Everything's just fine!

Please, it made me want to puke. Ron Paul makes a lot of sense. And he's so breathtaking to listen to since he's not in anyone's pocket. Yet it says something about the culture in America that they're just not ready to hear the truth about what should be done in the Middle East.

I think that's true, unless there is a silent majority out there that is awakening to his message of liberty at home and getting out of Iraq. As for Romney, Giuliani and Fred Thompson; I'm sorry, but they don't stack up. Romney is glossy but has lost his principles by trying to court the far right, which makes him the John Kerry of '08. Giuliani is full of crap. And I'm really sick and tired of this idea that we're just supposed to quietly go along with the fact that he's strong on security. Hello! The terrorists scored twice on his turf, and after the first attack, it was recommended to him to have a centcom built outside of Manhattan in case of a future terrorist attack. He insisted on putting it in the WTC, which is why he was roaming the streets on 9/11 and not at his bunker. He didn't have one. They built another one, in Brooklyn I think. And Fred Thompson is a moron. He's just so status quo about everything. Everything's fine, don't examine anything.

You've done too much to harm the reputation of Canadians at this forum for me to be civil towards you. Please take that under advisement. I'd recommend you steer clear of citing my posts. I have a notorious bad temper and take far too much pleasure from trashing people who annoy me.

Yeah, whatever. How about attacking my ideas and my opinions. If you have to make it personal, that's pretty small man.

Please take that under advisement. Sure bud.

Most of the internet polls I've seen have Paul winning with at least 50% of the total vote and once I saw him win with 98%.

What I don't get is how the Republican party attacked Kerry's flip-flopping but remain silent about Guliani and Romney.

And, conversely, Republicans are probably wondering why Democrats are attacking Romney and Giuliani, considering they didn't say a thing about Kerry...
