Re: What is wrong with Ron Paul?

This is what's wrong with him. It's his name.

Who would want a President who had two first names?
Get with it Ron! Either you're Ron somebody else or we're not voting for ya.

That's the problem. Neoconservatism has taken over conservatism, and has marginalized paleoconservatism. Now almost everyone is a neocon.

Voted NO on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Jan 2007)
Why is it the government's job to research embryonic stem cell lines? I like the topic, it is interesting and looks useful, but why should it be the government's job? If you like it, invest your own money.

Voted NO on allowing human embryonic stem cell research. (May 2005)
Voted NO on allowing human embryonic stem cell research.
To provide for human embryonic stem cell research. A YES vote would:

* Call for stem cells to be taken from human embryos that were donated from in vitro fertilization clinics
* Require that before the embryos are donated, that it be established that they were created for fertility treatment and in excess of clinical need and otherwise would be discarded
* Stipulate that those donating the embryos give written consent and do not receive any compensation for the donation.

Did you read the bill's description?

Quote:
Voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions. (Apr 2005)
So? Why is it your business where they perform abortions?
Quote:
Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC. (Jul 1999)
Okay, you have a point there.
Quote:
Opposes the death penalty. (Jan 2007)
Given the way it is carried out, it wastes a shitload of money. Amend the death penalty first.
Quote:
Voted NO on subjecting federal employees to random drug tests. (Sep 1998)
So? Do you want to subject people to tests that tell whether they drank coffee in the morning, too?
Quote:
Voted NO on requiring states to test students. (May 2001)
No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: Vote to pass a bill that would authorize $22.8 billion in education funding, a 29 percent increase from fiscal 2001. The bill would require states to test students to track progress.

Looks like an issue with big government, as Paul likes a small one.
Quote:
Abolish the federal Department of Education. (Dec 2000)
Uh, yeah. Let people pay for their own education.
Quote:
Supports a Constitutional Amendment for school prayer. (May 1997)
Uh...what's wrong with it? Is it your opinion that people should be banned from saying prayer or forced to pray?
Quote:
Voted NO on establishing nationwide AMBER alert system for missing kids. (Apr 2003)
You want child porn DRAWINGS to be illegal?
Quote:
Voted NO on reforming the UN by restricting US funding. (Jun 2005)
I don't know what Ron Paul meant by that. IMO I don't really see a reason to fund them at all, but I can see what he means by "don't manipulate foreigners with money."
Quote:
Close departments of Energy, Education & Homeland Security. (May 2007)
Yeah. Why do we need them? Energy needs to be privatized, education needs to be privatized, and DHS is a waste of money, anyway.
Quote:
Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits about obesity against food providers. (Oct 2005)
Even though I can imagine most of such lawsuits would be bullshit, the solution is not to ban them, but to look at them rationally at the individual level. Believe it or not, if they lie about the ingredients and that results in someone becoming obese, that would sound like a rational reason to sue.
Quote:
Voted NO on prohibiting product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers. (Oct 2005)
A yes vote would: "Prohibit the manufacture, import, sale or delivery of armor piercing ammunition"

I can see where RP was torn, given that the bill would make illegal something that should remain legal.
Quote:
Voted NO on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse. (Apr 2003)
While it makes sense at first, the question remains: why should SUING for something be made illegal? Shouldn't the courts decide?
Quote:
DHS is unmanageable bureaucracy--eliminate it. (May 2007)
Why do we need them, again?
Quote:
Voted NO on federalizing rules for driver licenses to hinder terrorists. (Feb 2005)
This is simply big-government bullshit, anyway. If someone is a terrorist, and has been convicted, wouldn't he be in jail anyway? What is the point of making it illegal for people behind bars indefinitely from getting licenses? WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO DRIVE? LOL! Clearly, they are wording it "against terrorists" to try and excuse that authoritarian bill.
Quote:
End draft registration; all-volunteer forces . (Dec 2000)
We have enough to babysit and oppress Iraqis. It's clear that we don't need anymore.
Quote:
Immediately work to phase out the IRS. (May 2007)
Yeah. Why do we need them?
Quote:
Trusts the Internet a lot more than the mainstream media. (May 2007)
Mainstream media is driven by money. Period. Do you think bribed and money-hungry people are going to be more focused on honesty than would sources not greedy or money-driven?

There are more, of course, but that's a fair start.

You mentioned the FBI and CIA would get phased out. Where did RP say that? I couldn't find it.

Judging from your statements, it appears that most of your gripes about Ron Paul stem from your belief that we need a bigger, much more liberal government. It looks as though you support an authoritarian, almost all-powerful government that acts somewhat like a mother or father. I know you probably won't change your opinion. So, perhaps you should consider picking a democrat for which to vote? They, too, support authoritarianism.

I mean, if you're going to be liberal, stop lying to yourself and go democrat.

I won't respond to all of your comments because, frankly, you bore me.

But...

Ron Pul's not interested in amending the death penalty, he wants to do away with it. I agree that it could use an overhaul, but not if the goal of that overhaul is to make it easier to abolish it altogether...

Quote:

Hardly the same thing. Drugs are illegal, coffee is not. Surely there's nothing about that which confuses you...

Quote:

Saying a prayer is fine, but setting time aside during the school day should not be done in a public school. As for forcing someone to pray, that also should not be done...

Amber alerts help find missing children. If passing that means that porn drawings are illegal, then I'm cool with it. Ron Paul, apparently, is unconcerned with finding missing children...

I think what is wrong with Ron Paul, is that, like former presidents he does not understand that: being in office, does not mean he will be in POWER!

Like I said, the death penalty needs to be amended before it can be supported. Right now, supporting it would be supporting a broken concept.

Then it would follow that their homes should be searched for illegal file-sharing (movies, music, software) software, they should be followed to ensure they don't jaywalk or speed, etc... given that all of those are illegal, too.

I read through the amendment and I don't see where it said that. All I see is is a proposition to neither force nor ban praying.

No, Paul is apparently concerned with loaded bills that idiots in government use to pass bullshit resolutions by including them with other items. You don't need to ban child porn drawings to make it easier to find missing children. It's a loaded bill, Paul apparently saw it, and thus, didn't fall for the bullshit. Leave it to the weak-minded to say "well, this obviously means he doesn't want to find missing children," while ignoring the fact that it was a loaded bill.

If one hasn't been convicted (and hasn't confessed), how do you know he is a terrorist?

Paul didn't say that and you know it. The question mentioned MAINSTREAM media and Internet, not mainstream media and mainstream Internet. Given that MAINSTREAM media is pretty much driven by money, it would follow that the Internet, which has aspects driven by money and aspects not driven by it, given only those characteristics (as is the question), would be less biased.

Also, when are you going to show us where Paul said the things you claimed he said about the FBI and CIA?

Ron Paul has expressed no desire to even fix it. He wants to do away with it...

I don't have a problem with "porn drawings" being made illegal. Only some social outcast loser who can't get a date would want them, anyway...

I referenced no question. I quoted a source in which it said he trusts the internet more than the mainstream media...

How do you know he opposes it? All you've shown me is a vote against a BROKEN death penalty.

All I saw was a vote against a BROKEN death penalty, not an opposition to the death penalty in general.

Re: What is wrong with Ron Paul?

At the end of this video, Ron Paul says that his supporters have made him a more crdible candidate.

How he doesn't see that as a problem is amazing. It should be his job to make himself a more credible candidate:

The bill you posted was one for a BROKEN death penalty. The only thing you've proven, if anything, is that RP does not support a BROKEN death penalty system.

Well, Steve, plenty of things are possible. I don't see why every possibility should be listed out, though. Seriously, what was your point in saying that? </
