When I listen to the other candidates talk about their policies I assume that they are simply saying what they believe will get them elected. Do you believe they really do intend to deliver everything they say in the primaries, let alone the election?

Of those currently in the running on both sides, I feel he is the most likely to make changes where necessary to help the US both domestically and internationally. I like McCain on some issues, Huckabee on a couple, Paul is good but not electable, but overall I think Obama would be the best overall leader. While I agree with some of the things Clinton stands for, I trust her the least to follow through on them.
Hello Zedrow:

I think your observation about Obama's appeal to many people is accurate. There is a desperate desire to have a president who will not split the country down the middle, after Bush and Clinton and all the bittereness of the past fifteen years.

I am impressed by what I see of Obama's character. But I must know his views. I appreciate flexibility and humility and a willingness to listen to others. I especially appreciate a leader who can see the difference between vital matters and questions that are not as significant.

But there must be a core of beliefs. That, combined with behavior, is at the core of character.

I heard one of Obama's advisors spell out part of his economic plan, or what passes for one, on CNBC. On CNBC, they will not allow him to get away with smiles and nice words.

What I heard was disturbing and confusing. He plans to hike the capital gains tax.

That is standard far-left policy: soak the stock market. The result, of course, will be the flight of investment from the US to other, more attractive markets. The costs to the US will be incalculable.

This policy is just retrograde left-wing nonsense. Obama is supposed to be something new and exciting. Why is he adapting the outdated policies that did so much harm?

That told me that Obama knows nothing about the economy and nothing about how markets work. Of course, it is trendy and exciting to play Robin Hood - but the real result is that interest rates and inflation will move up and the people how have the most to lose will be punished. the wealthy can always find other places to invest.

Obama claims he will bring home the troops and that he will end the whole atmosphere that led to war.

Perhaps - but what will he replace it with? What will the military think? It does matter - and we don't need to replace Bush with a traditional anti-military pacifist Democrat who sentimentalizes the real threats in the world. That is, unless we move towards strict isolationism. That may thrill those who dislike the US, but it is quite dangerous.

These are hard facts, but how many people want to hear them when they are told they will feel good again? Warm feelings are nice, but not enough.

I have read again and again on this forum today how many conservatives are thrilled by Obama. My question for them is: In what sense are you a conservative? Are you so smitten by this candidate that you are willing to throw all your beliefs and convictions out the window?

Re: Thoughts on Obama

I understand where you are coming from and agree that going from one extreme to another is not a solution to uniting the country. I guess deep down I'm hoping that Obama is trying to pander to the left when he is outlining some of his policies. I feel that, if he turns out being the Democratic choice, we will begin to see where he differs from the Dems on some issues and is more in line with the Republicans.

I think it would be political suicide in such a close race to bring these issues to the forefront now. Look at how McCain has been demonized for agreeing with the Dems on some issues. I'm honestly surprised that he's this far ahead with so many like Coultier screaming that he is not a true Republican.

Anyway time will tell, but I certainly see more hope with Obama than the others, and would prefer to vote for him than to not vote at all.

Re: Thoughts on Obama

Cyber-hater, you had been silent in the past three weeks, I believe. I guess you spent that time to digest the eleven-straight blow you have had from Obama lovers all across the country. And you prepared another photoshop miracle. You simply stink. You are a disgrace to our country. You don't belong to this country. You feed on hate, not love or hope or tolerance. You are a warmonger racist. You are xenophopic. You are mentally disturbed. You don't support anyone; you just hate. You are not capable of loving. You are the only cesspit in this forum. You don't produce ideas; you spew hatred.

You have repetaed yourself almost 80 times and moderators still bear with your dryness.

Listen, hater, even if you peg out in your hatred, Obama shall be the President. You will lose. You have lost eleventh times. You will never be able to crawl out of the cesspit you were born and reside.

Die in your hatred and helplesness.

Thoughts on Obama?
I'm still waiting for him to impress me. My current thoughts on him are that there's nothing to indicate he's more than a cautious and mainstream politician who happens to be a really good public speaker. If I want cautious and mainstream, I'll vote for Hillary.

Re: Thoughts on Obama

Obama is,

*Member, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations
Chairman, Subcommittee on European Affairs

*Member, Subcommittee on African Affairs

*Member, Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs

*Member, Subcommittee on International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs and International Environmental Protection

*Member, Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

*Member, Subcommittee on Ad Hoc Subcommittee on State, Local, and Private Sector Preparedness and Integration

*Member, Subcommittee on Investigations

*Member, Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services, and International Security

*Member, Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs
which is actually pretty thick on foriegn affairs and national defense.

*And if Obama is out playing b-ball with foriegn diplomats, at least he's willing to talk to them, which is more than HRC seems to be willing to do. Give me talk before war any day.

Re: Thoughts on Obama

]My photo of Obama is NOT photo-shopped. It's a photo of Hussein Obama in Muslim garb.
It's breaking on the news today. Hillary is exposing him via the photo.
This will be big...and possibly the beginning of the end for muzzie Obama

This is a real photo?

I haven't seen it anywhere else. What is it? That is, what event does it relate to?

Re: Thoughts on Obama

She is right - it is everywhere, but only in the last few minutes, it seems!

It is from a Somali trip in 2006.

It is a smear from the Clinton campaign.

It is also dynamite.

Re: Thoughts on Obama

This excerpt from a news report re Hillary:

"Clinton also lamented being outspent by Obama in several early voting states, despite burning through nearly "$130 million of her own".

She must be into deep pockets !

Actually, it is everywhere this morning - all over the web.

I always said the Clintons were tough and shrewd.
