I've voted for some independents. If I didn't like any of the alternatives, I've written in Bill the Cat.

I knew that Bush was bad news from 1999. I voted for Gore, and I voted for Kerry (held my nose on that one). I'm not ashamed.
Hmmm Bill the Cat, there's an idea....

See i only asked because in November i may face the same problem, there's no Bush to vote for and if no Rudy i won't vote GOP. I'm not gonna vote for a Dem (at least i don't think so) so if i wanna finally vote in a Presidential election i better get thinking...

Same thing in my district, SM. My vote counts for nothing, because I'm so outnumbered.

Yeah. Gerrymandering stinks.

Bill 'n Opus in 2008!

It's not easy. I struggled a lot between Clinton and Perot. Other than that, I haven't really seen a 3rd party candidate that made any sense to me. And, based on the platform, I can't vote Republican, at least not for President.

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

Thanks to Tom DeLay pretty much nobody's vote around here carries any weight! We haveto rely on Crawford to bail us out because we are not in Waco's "city" limits but in the county, surrounding and neighboring which has different and totally disproprtional representation after re-districting. So now the best we can do is get Parry to call for more changing to the lines of our town and we can get lumped into Crawford, that would be awsome.

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

I'm not sure what the write-in rules are, honestly.

You'd have to pick a running mate.

Darth Sidious, perhaps? Satan comes to mind as well...

Nah. Newt. That should cast quite a shadow.

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

Nah goes against my religious views to vote for Satan, my polling station is funny though. I voted Parry absentee in 06, but the guy next door told me he voted Kinky. When he went into the polling station he went in and voted and he was walking out and then the official there said "Hey its a little quiet, you wanna go back in a few times"? That made me think, if i can go in and vote for someone else i will buti don't wanna make a trip down to Crawford for no reason, i'll have to find a way to find out for sure.

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

What I don't understand is why so many people not registered Democrat or Republican and live in a closed primary state bitch so much about not being able to vote. If you want to vote in the primaries, change your party affiliations to match the candidate your gunning for about two months before-hand just to be safe and vote. That being said, I wonder how many Ron Paul supporters can't even vote to put him on the ballot because of just such a situation. Just out of curiosity of course, not because I ya know actually care about Ron Paul.

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

What harm does it actually do being registered witha party, even if you are put off by the 2 Party system? I mean just having your name to the party which is closest to you ideologically can't hurt can it?

Re: I am switching from the Democrat party.

Well, I'm not really worried about voting in the primary, so I prefer to remain independent. If nothing else, hopefully it demonstrates a little bit of my disgust with the system.

I have been a registered Democrat for 24 years, admittedly because that is what most of my family is.
As I have gotten older, and can more clearly define what my economic, social and overall political views are - I have found it increasingly difficult to continue the facade that "I am a Democrat".
Since the mid-80's I have watched the Democrat party becoming more and more liberal, and those with CLEAR liberal beliefs taking high positions of power in the party. I believe this has been a detriment to both the party and the country. As the Democrats in power became more and more liberal, the farther they drifted from what the majority of Americans believe in.

Believing there is no place in the Democrat party for those believing in a "moderate-conservative" approach to economics, no space for people who value the family structure - who believe that people should be punished for their crimes, and that public safety supersedes criminal rehabilitation, which usually only ends up in early release...etc. etc.....I will officially remove my name from the Democrat party.

I will at least temporarily switch to Independent until further review.
Both parties are servile to the interests of money and power. To be sure, both wing's methodology are different, but not by much. To say that the Democratic Party has become too liberal, is just too vague. How do you define "liberalism?" In my view, the Democratic Leadership Council has steered the party further to the right (which is why I'm not a Democrat).

I guess it just depends on where you consider the fulcrum to be. I believe that mainstream Americans do not believe in an illegal and immoral war, that most do not believe in the Unitary Executive, that they do believe in universal healthcare, that they don't believe the government's illegal surveillance of the citizenry, that they don't believe in torture, Straussian philosophy that the masses are too stupid and need to be ruled by Philosopher Kings, and that they prefer to be left alone and to live and let live.

These, I suppose could be called "liberal" traits, though - I just think of it as commonsense.
