I found it on the home page of his church, read the mission statement.
Quote:
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Crackers need not apply.................fucking racist segregationists there Johnny Boy.

If a white person went there, would he be rejected?

Why don't they reject Obama? He's only half.

Re: Obama Speech 3/18 - "Race In America"

OK then , imagine this . Bush goes to Sunday meetin' at a church with this mission statement:

Quote:
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the White religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an Anglo people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, Europe. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a White worship service and ministries which address the White Community.
There you go boys and girls, how the fuck would that fly? Oh , that double standard is a motherfucker, huh?

Just up and leaving a church is not an easy thing. Being part of the Christian community is not just some voluntary thing that you can just leave when you want (some people do, but it shouldn't work that way). Church is a place where you are in deep relationship with everyone there and thats not easy to just pick up and leave.

Also, what we heard where clips of very long sermons. Taken out of context i have heard any number of things my pastors have said that could be viewed in a lot of horrible ways.
Taken out of context is one thing. I have heard many quotes that say one sentence without the preceding or the ending and it would make a big difference in what the person meant. However, saying america created the aids virus to elimate black people? What could have been said preceding that or after that to make it different?

Re: Obama Speech 3/18 - "Race In America"

I thought this thread was about the speech. There is another thread about the pastor. It seems there are some people who had made up their minds on this issue before Obama spoke today. So why post in a thread that's about his response to this controversy. If you, like the media, want to engage in an endless feedback loop about Rev. Wright, can you please post in a thread devoted to HIS words. Rather than this one, devoted to Obama's?

Unfortunately CMS,

That is how the GOP noise machine operates. Dirty tricks is their lifeblood. Smear is their consistant MO. But given what they have done to our Nation, if I were one of them, I'd also do absolutely ANYTHING to avoid talking about the real issues too.

Sure IS :-)

Obama gets a free pass for this kind of bullshit but bush ....

...Christ, we'd never EVER hear the end of it.

It's strange how hypocritic the double standards of liberals are isn't it ?

Then one must wonder if Michael Savage was right when he wrote a book about liberalism being a "mental disorder."

We certainly see evidence of THAT daily.

Yes I am reading it and I cannot find the section in which he renounced his membership in a racialist church that teaches that only black leadership is worthy of allegiance. If anything it looked to me that he was justifying his affiliation with a racialist church that is loyal to Africa first and foremost.

However, he is doing what I expected him to do; he gave long winded speech in which he spewed emotional rhetoric about the constitution gave mention to the token whitey's in his family and essentially substituted an elaborate collection of drivel for a formal renunciation of a racialist institution.

Please Captain Trips, point out to me, step by step, 1) what do you find objectionable about the speech and 2) where is Obama getting a 'pass'?

It wouldn't even have to be a politician, just a white chuch with a mission statement that mirrors BO's church would have Al Sharpton running to the media (race card in hand) so fast you'd think he had a jetpack on.

It's not the same situation. If it were a church visited by white trailer trash were Bush was performing charity the comparison would be a lot better.
