Ferraro Offended By Comparison to Pastor Wright

And rightly she hasn't spewed the racist crap that Wright has. Lawdy Lawd, the dems have hit the self destruct button.

Geraldine Ferraro complained Thursday about Barack Obama lumping her in with his controversial pastor, whom she called a “racist bigot.”

Obama mentioned Ferraro on Tuesday in his speech on race and his relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose heated, anti-U.S. sermons raised questions about the company the Democratic presidential candidate keeps.

“To equate what I said with what this racist bigot has said from the pulpit is unbelievable,” Ferraro told the Los Angeles newspaper, The Daily Breeze, on Wednesday. “He gave a very good speech on race relations, but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred.”

Ferraro, who left Hillary Clinton’s campaign finance team after saying Obama wouldn’t be where he is if he were white, said she had “no clue” why Obama included her in his speech. She said Obama’s relationship with Wright raises questions about his judgment.

“What this man is doing is he is spewing that stuff out to young people, and to younger people than Obama, and putting it in their heads that it’s OK to say ‘God damn America’ and it’s OK to beat up on white people,” she said. “You don’t preach that from the pulpit.”

The Wright controversy lit up shortly after Ferraro, the 1984 Democratic vice presidential candidate, left her post on the Clinton finance committee following her initial interview with The Daily Breeze on Obama’s success.

In his speech, Obama drew a comparison between the two individuals.

“We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias,” he said.

Speaking in Philadelphia, Obama then argued that the issue of race cannot be ignored and that to over-simplify and focus only on the negative aspects of the matter would distort reality.

Overall, Ferraro said Obama’s speech was “excellent,” aside from the part where her name was mentioned.

Obama also discussed the racial views of his white grandmother Tuesday, a topic he revisited Thursday in an interview with 610 WIP, Philadelphia Sports Radio. In the interview, Obama denied his grandmother held racial prejudices and described her as a “typical white person.”

“The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity — she doesn’t,” he said. “But she is a typical white person who, you know, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there is a reaction. That has been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way.”

But Obama described his grandmother Tuesday as a woman who was at times fearful of black men.

“I can no more disown [Wright] than I can disown my white grandmother, a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed her by on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe,” he said.

Ferraro opened herself up to these types comments after her publicity fiasco describing Obama's candidacy. If a Republican made the same type of comments, this board will resemble a war zone.

If a 'typical white' person, like Ferarro, says anything negative about Obama, they are immediately branded a racist. There is a serious double standard.

What's another name for the Ku Klux Klan?.......................Typical white people.

At any rate, to all of the Democrats who are handing this election to the Republicans, thanks. I appreciate it.

Democrats are the gift that keeps on giving with that. It's almost uncanny how good they can be about it. Even when a horse with broken legs runs, they'll have a heart attack on the track.

and John McCain is that horse.....

if you believe the polls, if the election were held today John McCain would crush either of the Democrats by double digits.

Not that I am a fan of Ferarro at all, but she had a point, I guess. It sounds like a wee bit of gratuitous and jabbing on Obama's part, perhaps in hopes of any opportunity to discredit Hillary with her past associations, if the opportunity arises.

True, but let's face it. Ferraro had every right to defend herself. She right, she's nothing like Pastor Wright, & would have never considered the hateful, racist things he is known for saying. Let's not forget there are young children in that church that can easily be swayed by Pastor Wrights comments.

I believe terrorist organizations teach their young to hate like this also?

If any white person would say "typical" black person, it would be considered a racist comment. There would be no end to news commentary about it, if said from someone like Hillary Clinton.

Obama gets away with it, because he is black.

Its incredible...i mean we can't stand the guy so the Dems see the need to send all the independants our way and have them subsidise the absent conservative vote!

Rasmussen now has McCain leading them both in a majority of states polled, he is now the only candidate with better favorables than unfavorables and now is the only candidate with above 50% positive views!

In the electoral tracker they have Mccain now going ahead in the electoral vote too! He's leading in blue states like PA, MN and NH! Utter madness!

There is a double standard. That's not news.

Still, as long as this double standard exists, there is reason to point it out in order to make people more aware and within time make the double standard go away.

Re: Ferraro Offended By Comparison to Pastor Wright

Guys, not all black people are like this......you would be surprised how many of us that are sick of the way many black people act like stupid fools.

The smart black people who work hard and live a clean life are waking up to the way the democratic party has treated us. We have put the past in the rear-view mirror and that is where it stays. Not to use it as a means to spread hate and distrust. Those who do are either dumb ass racists like Wright who make a living at it or just to fucking stupid to understand and are blindly following like most of the democratic party.
