Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

Listen and Discuss.

Please, if you're going to critic Wright's sermon can you refer to portions of the sermon? The whole thing is there so there's no excuse just repeating the parts we've already seen on Fox over and over.

Re: Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

Part 1 - Well he completely hacked the trial of Jesus. He makes a ridiculous accusation that it was the roman military occupation that created the scene where Jesus was executed. That because of the persecution of the people by this military occupation is why he was taken....anyone who knows even the basic story here knows this is FAR from the truth.
In fact the end of Part 1 he blames Jesus's execution entirely on the Italian army, no mention of how it was the CHURCH that insisted on executing Jesus, and Pilate resisted the execution ....wow some would say "false prophet".
Part 2 - he takes this false account to begin his rant against military occupation, now a minister speaking against war is certainly nothing new - beginning the sermon on a false account to support the message is. Around the 6 minute mark his rant turns into just that - by making it out that the Bush administration and America says "God justifies innocent death because we are right"....neither I nor anyone else has heard the mention of God as apart of the Iraq war. He even goes on to say "in the name of God we made a preemptive strike" - ridiculous.
It was at this point where he said America is no different than A-Q. He then fires up the crowd by again falsely claiming that we (like AQ) are using the name of God to murder)....this is point blank false. If this war is about anything - it is not about God. ...it was also at this moment where he brings in race...and turns the message from a military occupation - to a race occupation.

I have to go for now...I'll come back to critique the rest.
From what I have seen so far, Wright has made some good points about 5% of the message - the remaining 95% is either an outright misrepresentation of the scripture to twist the Bible to fit his idealism - or making ridiculous claims that we are just like terrorist because we are both killing in the name of God.

well the misrepresentation of the roman angle fits the garlic noses comment. If head been honest he would have simply said competing Jewish sects, colluded to kill jesus and it was more along the lines of Politics than humanitarian necessity.

Re: Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

lets discuss that regardless of what he said in the whole thing, by being so vitrolic he loses his RELIGIOUS message and turns his sermon into a POLITICAL message

when roberts and the like did it, was it acceptable CMS

... and, Fox showed the entire sermon. Seems pretty fair to me. Even after hearing the entire thing, Wright has some "issues".

Re: Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

Guys there are preachers just like Wright all over the nation. Why do you think black people are so screwed up politically? When you have a fucker like Wright up there lying through his teeth telling you HE, not God, has all the answers and for a big house, jewelry, wad of show money and nice new luxury car he will share with you what God has told HIM which path to lead you down. Most black people would never dare question anything to do with God so they blindly get lead to believe only their preacher knows who to vote for and blindly they will go out on election day to vote for the democratic politician who greased the preachers palm.

Come closer to Nov, that is why you will see the democrats running to black churches to get the preacher to tell his flock that they will vote for that democrat. Then behind closed doors that democrat will tell the preacher how he will get his in return.

You dont see Kerry, Gore and Clinton in any black churches now that they are not running for office now do you?

Having a cousin who is a preacher of the largest black church in his town, that is exactly how it happens.

LS - the thread is about Wrights sermon - not Obama, Clinton or anyone else. There are 100 threads for that - it is refreshing to talk about a singular piece of an issue.
Please stay on the topic, since the OP asked we should comply.

Re: Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

Part 3 and 4...... First the reference to "Uncle Clarence" who raped Anita Hill...well only problem is he was found innocent. Wright has NO more information than anyone else - yet he chooses to crucify "Uncle Clarence" simply because he is conservative and I suppose acts to "white".
Then we gone to Wrights basic anti-government and anti-American rantings - Pearl Harbor was set up, setup the Vietnam War for profit (guess he forgot about France), the American government put Mandela in prison, invented HIV virus to kill black people etc.
Then he is back to racism again...bringing up slavery...again...then makes reference to the government of pre-Lincoln is like the Bush administration...then goes back to the 1800's and talks about racism...then switches almost instantly to Clinton saying there was a finally a friend to blacks (except he makes a note that reform welfare was wrong- surprise)...then switches back to Bush administration - and this is where he makes the God damn America statement...blames the American government for blacks out of work today..then blames it for blacks being uneducated (seems to forget there is 55% drop-out rates within miles of the church)...then calls Condaleeza Rice sleasy (she acts to white) ..talks about Tiger Woods playing on discriminating golf courses..(guess not the one he lives on)

So basically folks - Wright's full sermon is actually worse than the statements that Fox picked out...hearing the entire sermon I see a hateful man, bent on polluting his followers with hate speech, anti-white rhetoric and speech that will ensure the continual divide between black and white.

and by the way...I noticed Wright doesn't ever (probably NEVER) brings up how black people treat black people and how utterly despicable black men treat black women and abandon their children...like 70% of the time...but I guess that is Bush's fault too.

Ferocious, hysterical, fanatical stuff.

The reason it is so difficult to take in large doses is because the rage and hatred are so thick and deep: I felt like I was being smothered.

Also, as a Christian there is the sense of disgust and outrage because my faith is being used to justify this level of hatred. And yes, I think the same when it is twisted in regards to Katrina, and regardless of the political viewpoints.

Essentially, the idea that this whole story is a case of "spin" or taking the sermon out of context is blown out of the water.

Indeed - watching the entire sermon angers me. Angers me to see a man accusing others of using God to promote their actions - while at the same time misrepresenting Biblical text to promote his outrages brand of religion...angers me to see a "leader" in the troublesome black culture over and over bring up conditions for blacks 200 years ago as if it happened yesterday - while REFUSING to acknowledge that blacks have ANY responsibility towards their own failings...and never mentioning that TODAY black women in black cultures in Africa - TODAY - live their lives no better than when they were slaves 200 years ago...never mentioning how his church is surrounded by gangsters, rapist womanizers who treat women like a piece of meat and abandon her and his children if he impregnates her.

Wright is one of the worst American men I have seen.

And Wright is continuing to speak up and out and will be in the media spotlight this week - and Obama cannot do anything about it. This is happening despite obvious evidence - actual hard data - that he is severely hurting his protegee.

It just doesn't make sense.

Obama's whole campaign was built around the image of a unifier: someone who would do what had rarely been done before - to get past the divisions among Americans and bring hope.

There is absolutely nothing left of that now. This is turning into the most divisive campaign in memory, and it is within the Democratic party. Obama looks exhausted, and at this point, Wright is only making it much worse.

Re: Fox.com has whole "God Damn America" Speech.

iamwhatiseem: I completely disagree with your take on part 1. And I came into the discussion completely open. In fact I can not find where this was claimed in his sermon:

He makes a ridiculous accusation that it was the roman military occupation that created the scene where Jesus was executed. That because of the persecution of the people by this military occupation is why he was taken...

But I'm just taking his sermon at face value and not looking for hidden messages or subtle stressing on syllables.

Part 2: Well, If i were white...yeah, that's pretty harsh. Untrue? Topically, no. Overly political? Perhaps. But that is how the light burns. Many disagreed with Jesus, many with the power to do something about it, and the crucified Him and his disciples. I'm not saying he isn't treading on VERY dangerous ground, and I'm not saying he didn't screw up Obama's chances, but I'm not saying what he is saying is untrue. Except, the AQ/US association and comparision, and his statement that the war was a Christioan crusade. I understand where he was going but not many are willing to follow.

Part 3: All political, completely off-track, and grating to my ears. This part makes me wonder what his motives are. I go to church (on Sabbath) to hear the Word, to praise His Highest, and to commune with my brethren in Christ. I understand warning, and comparing the folly of the past to the folly of the present, but don't start ministering from the New York Times.
Let me know as a child of Christ what IAM to do and where IAM to go. If the US is corrupt, vengence is the Lords.

I respect and understand the point of not confusing government and God. And a few Americans would do well to make that distinction between government and God, loyalty and faith, patriotism and jingoism and piousness.
But he makes some very valid points, and anyone who dismisses everything this man says is hiding behing their hands, shaking their heads while loudly repeating "LALALALALA".

LOST SOUL you are clearly befuddled.
