No, that's not what I'm advocating at all. But thanks for parsing out part of my post and then putting words in my mouth. That's a remarkably effective strategy!

I bake my own bread.

I can't even remember the last time I bought a gallon of milk.

I'll pay the price that the market will bear. Of course, maybe we could stop paying farmers not to grow crops? That'd help with food prices, too.

Do you not buy groceries at all?

Everything in a grocery store will go up, significantly, in price, including the ingredients you'll have to buy to bake your own bread...

I suspect it won't be a 400% increase, but yes.

Sure. But, I'd prefer that we take the tax subsidies we pay to farmers who aren't growing crops, or to farmers who grow tobacco, or similar bullshit subsidies and redirect them that way first.

I'm more for increases in efficiency than increases in taxes.

Oh, and it was my grandmother that taught me to bake bread.

Government efficiencies over tax and spend?

Must be nice to have a trust fund to pull from when one needs money.

Yes, government efficiencies over tax and spend. Why does that bother you?

Oh, and there's no trust fund here. I've had a job ever since I was 14. I've worked very hard for a long time. I also know how to manage a budget.

It does not bother me, government efficiencies, it is more of when have there been efficiencies with in the government?

If ones income stays where it is and the cost of goods and services goes up 3times.. just what is that going to do to your budget?

It has been a Very long time from the last time that the Feds lived within a budget......

Maybe I'm just too optimistic - I see the possibilities for change. I don't disagree with your points, though.

If the cost of food goes up three-fold, my budget will shift. I will spend less money for clothing, entertainment, etc. I will shift my cooking to less expensive ingredients - less meat, more grains and vegetables. I'll drink less beer.

See? If that isn't commitment, I don't know what is!

(emphasis added)

I think that's the key factor. Efficiency is something that has been all but overlooked. I suspect that some of the most lucrative investments for the next 50 years will be in those businesses that are developing new ways to increase efficiency.

Re: Remember when..........

Let us not forget the cost of local government going up. And when they have cost increases they pass it on to us by increasing property taxes, States increase income taxes all the while pay stays the same unless one works for the government.

The cost of natural gas , home heating oil, elect all going up with the price of oil going up.

Just how many out there have the $$$ to go out with in the next few months to go solar? Wind? or some Hybr car?

Yes we need to get off the Oil, but there needs to be some thing in the time from now to that day, with out it the poor are going to be hit the hardest.

Mon and Pop stores going out of business.... the little cafe closed, the small farm sold... the small fishing boat under corp control... the single trucker a slave to the corp trucking company.

Remember when 80% of business had less than 3 employees? gone to the corp slaves...
