Barr announces Libertarian Presidential bid

At last a true conservative, we will be able to gauge just how "far right" America is by how many votes Bob Barr gets.
The Associated Press: Barr announces Libertarian White House bid

I wonder if the GOP would object if Obama used some of his financial clout to assure that Barr got on the ballot in every swing state? You know like Bush did with Nader.

Seriously, how does this affect McCain, does the GOP get behind him and shun Barr, or do enough conservatives "message vote" to put Obama over the top in a close race?

Really, the liberals were calling him a far right winger when he lead the charge for Clinton impeachment.

Barr is from GA and has been writing for the very liberal AJC "Opinions" articles.

What GA votes he would get here he has lost once you have listened to him talk or reading his opinions. Conservative he is not.

You should hear some of the exchanges between conservative libertarian Boortz and Barr. As Boortz as claimed, Barr has forgotten who helped him into office and who helped him out.

1) Barr lacks both of the key ingredients a third party candidate needs to make a significant splash: Money and Name recognition

2) Absent the above, no one's (media or the public) going to pay any attention, donate any money, nor vote for the guy.

3) It's too late in the game for anyone besides Al Gore or an Exhumed Reagan to throw their hat into the race. The election process started more than a year ago. 5 months is not enough time to introduce yourself to an electorate that is now more familiar with McCain, Obama and Clinton than their own children.

4) Ralph Nader's impact on the election, although negligible, will probably be twice as potent as Barr's. The day of Barr's announcement....today... will be his biggest newsday of the whole election cycle.

Re: Barr announces Libertarian Presidential bid

Considering how close some states will be, between Paul and Barr McCain might lose two or three points in some key swing states. Bad for him, good for Dems.

You do realize that the Libertarian party can attract both conservative and liberal voters right?

What? Who's going to vote for (Ron, I assume) Paul? Will he even be on the ballot?

Paul will have no effect on the outcome of the election and I think the few votes for Barr won't even steal as many republican votes as Nader will steal from democrats.

There is no significant third party candidate this time around and I don't see any net benefit for either major party.

What Barr and Paul ought to do is combine their campaigns to form one ticket.

The "Losertarian" party will have ZERO effect this election, just as it has in every other Presidential election. They simply aren't taken seriously on a national level.

Why the name "losertarian"? Because they do one thing really, really well: LOSE ELECTIONS.

Re: Barr announces Libertarian Presidential bid

Barr may have some impact on a few states, and that can certainly be significant.

He is not appealing to conservatives in general because he is perceived as an odd duck. But a few may vote for him for that very reason. He is probably as much spoiler as Ralph Nader.

But that moustache is too sinister. He must get rid of that creepy moustache.

Re: Barr announces Libertarian Presidential bid

It all depends on how close the election is. Nader probably did cost Gore the election in 2000. He certainly didn't cost Kerry the election in 2004.

I'm not expecting this election to be close. I'm expecting a blowout for Obama. Thus, I don't think that Barr's campaign will make any significant difference.

Re: Barr announces Libertarian Presidential bid

I haven't seen this much wishful thinking [by the lefties] since [my side] in the lead-up to the Sen. Thompson campaign.

Seriously...

Paul or Barr...having any actual impact?

Paul and Barr making a difference? ("WonderTwin powers activate - shape of dehydrated water - form of an impotent phallus!")

"Expecting a blowout for Obama" (unless you mean some sort of forthcoming "BJ"-centered controversy leading him to being knocked "out" of the election...)?

Nonsense, all of it.

Seriously, a thread needs to be put together wherein we can make "predictions that we will absolutely stand by" such that, after the fact, it will serve as a one-stop-shop for silly prognostication to be openly mocked and used repeatedly as a cudgel.

Oh, yes - the predicted blow-out, comparable to Roosevelt.

Well, "blow out" will certainly be the term, as the whole nation surrenders its collective will to a lightweight leftist with childish - and frightening - plans to turn the nation into a pseudo-socialist paradise. The economy will certainly be blown apart.

And of course you may be correct. Fear and uncertainity are at high levels today, and the temptation to worship a secular "saint" is strong. It is a terrible thing, of course, but it is true.
