Both countires? hmmmmmm.....

Really what unit because I cannot remember any unit that started in SA, broke through into Iraq and ended up in Kuwait the same night.

Maybe you can enlighten me.

Nor do I remember any unit that started the push into Kuwait that ended up in Iraq the same night either.

Maybe you were part of some super secret elite special forces group?

Dude you do realize that from the southern most part of Kuwait to the northern most is less than 90 miles and the shortest distance between Iraq and Saudi Arabia is less than .5 kilometers. I could have said I went in through Kuwait into Iraq forgot my coffee went back to Saudi Arabia and went back thru Kuwait into Iraq AND back in time for corn flakes. So roll your eyes till they fall out your socket, you are one person whose opinion I value as much as that aforementioned fly's buzzing. And not because of you political affiliation, but because I've spoken to fifth graders more sophisticated in politics than you.

Maybe a unit full of Supermen. It doesn't make any sense to say that. My understanding is they were in a race to beat the Republican Guard back to Baghdad and they lost.

Kuwait isn't all that big, but I think it will take more then one night to go through Kuwait and Iraq.

Kind of hard to drive about 200 miles through the desert in a large convoy in one night. But if you think you can, feel free...............

I guess you didn't have much to worry about from enemy tanks but I think I would slow down to make sure we didn't run into any ambushes, mines, etc.

I smell BS and you just proved it.

BTW, you forgot to mention what unit you were in that started in Kuwait then drove into Iraq in the same night. The only infantry units that I know of that was close enough to the SA, Kuwait and Iraq was the 3rd Marines, Air Cav and some coalition forces who could cross all three borders.

The fighting from SA into Kuwait was heavier than crossing the Kuwait/Iraq border and I cannot remember any unit spearheading into Kuwait then circling around into Iraq in the same night.

What was your mission? I know for a fact it wasn't recon or path-finding because they were in place hours before kickoff and were extracted after the fighting began. The only unit that could cover that amount of clicks in the same night were using air support. If you would tell me what unit we could put this to rest.

To to mention the bunker system, tank traps or the Iraq troops standing in the way.

And more than once, too.

But since I don't buy anything I hear in speeches I gotta say I can't get all worked up about this. EVERY politician (or politician's spouse) says something at one time or another that gets plucked from a speech and gets the living hell analyzed out of it.

You know what, I'm not going to prove a damn thing to you or mudwhistle, think I'm a liar think what you want to. Why would I lie about being in the military like it's some sort of elite organization. They'll take anybody...you got in for fucks sakes. What the fuck! I call myself taking a break from this place just to come back and see that the morons who once trolled the halls have merely been replaced. At least they were entertaining! As a matter of fact, this place has been annexed! I remember when W.E.B. got the boot I should have known then that Rupert Murdoch made a move on this humble ground.

Anyway believe whatever you wish, it's an aside anyway. The meat and potatos of my original post still stand. And you solidify it absoluteness with every word you type.

I remember that night. Explosions in the distance. The Iraqi Armor had no chance against the Abram. The next morning you could see the devastation. And for all it was worth that was the only fighting I saw. But if anyone told you that it was a death struggle or anything that alluded to a tough battle they told you a big one. There was no contest and they didn't have a chance. I was in a support unit driving a duece 1/2. What I also remember about that night was during the convoy we were blacked out and all you had to guide you was to focus on a tiny red light on the back of the truck in front.

Another thing about Iraq were when the oil wells were burning you could feel their heat 10 or 15 maybe 20 miles away. I remember tripping about that. I thought that those fires would burn forever and I named one after my son.

There are a few more stories that I've told repeatedly in the past. People don't ask much about it anymore. It's kinda funny though, now I second guess myself and wonder if I saw some of the things I thought I did. There were some surreal moments that now I'm not quite sure happened. It's a queer thing.

We who have been there just felt you were exaggerating. Lost Soul pretty much proved it.

You really have to be 100% certain of what you say here or somebody will jump you sure as hell.

Damn.

How did you know it was the oil wells causing it, was it a hot wind from their direction? (not doubting, just asking, I like details )

I drove what I think was on a highway south of the wells. I guess the temp started rising 10 or 15 miles out. I'm not sure how close I came to the wells but I wouldn't think any less than 5 miles.

Mudwhistle it was actually a slip of the tongue, I didn't go thru Kuwait from Saudi into Iraq the same night, but big deal. I was there, that's the point.
Funny thing though about exaggerating some of my stories about that place have grown in the years. That's funny you used that particular word.

Oh and I don't recall any wind. I honestly think that those fires were just that hot. And something else I remember. There was some sort of scare about the fumes from those fires having negative affects on soldiers.
