Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
And I think thats been answered. He does have military experience, he does have military leadership experience. Therefore as presidents go he is qualified.

And given his experience, he should have no trouble leading US troops into POW camps.

Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
Well, of course his Military Service and experience doesn't give him the ability to lead the US Military into a war...
BUT since when is the President Leading the Military? Correct me if I am wrong... but that is something the Military does by itself with a top -> down hirarchie,no? 4 Star Generals or Joint Chief of Staff... I dunno... but the Potus is not like Stalin messing up 1941... or Hitler messing up the war... we talk about. He gives basic instructions and it gets complicated when he meddles to much with the presented plans... So the question that is important in my opinion is: Is John McCain reasonable enough to listen to the advice from people who know what they are doing? I guess his "War Hero" Status will definatly grand him some respect from within the military... and perhaps his experience of serving in the military for quite some time gives him a better communicative relationship with the current leadership of the US military (some or many who began their carreer during the Vietnam war) The next question is: Is this Military Aspect really that important? As I said... the most important thing for a Leader is the ability to listen to multible sources of advice and make a decision based in reality that benefits the people of the nation in the best way... even hard or unpopular decisions... I think McCain could have this ability... since he is quite controversal for many right wing republicans who call him TOOOO liberal... |

Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
So, at lunch today, Obama gave a speech backing up McCain, as a result of his advisor Wesly Clark criticizing McCains service.
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS.../clark.mccain/ http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/V...5275833&page=1 Of course, Obama turned it into a speech about himself, defending against critiques that he isnt a patriot. Is he trying to bring himself up to McCains level, who was a TRUE patriot? There just isnt a comparison here.

Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
Weasley Clark has said having your plane shot out from under you doesn't qualify you for the commander in chief slot.
Didn't JFK have a boat shot out from under him?

Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
although it seems intuitive that military leadership would lead to a better commander in chief that doesn't really play out through history.
I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure that Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR had no military experiance but they succeeded in leading our country through three of the biggest wars in our country's history. Quote:
The point Clark was making was that being a war hero does not in any way qualify a person to do the job of president, and is really irrelevant except as a general statement of character. And yes, that was just as true of Kennedy as it is of John McCain. |

Re: Right Wing Media Myth #2: John McCain has Military Experience
It is quite obvious that McCain has more military leadership experience than Barack Hussein Obama.
McCain spent 5yrs in a POW camp in service to his country. What has B. Hussein Obama sacrificed for his country? That's right not a damn thing. ![]() |
