You know what? The majority of Heroin addicts want to drill (inject), too.

Maybe a little over the top, but you get my drift.

I have to wonder what gives Pelosi such power to ignore the wishes of 40% of the House. This would be an interesting topic to ask Obama and McCain. As President how would they address the democratic majorities totalitarian activities?

Precisely. A little intervention is indicated. Just say no to oil...just say no.

Strawman?

Actually only the uses during which the waste products are dumped into the environment are damaging.

Keep telling your self that,

And turn in that cell phone and computer that you are using, there are oil by-products in there, so if you are saying no to oil then say no to the cell phone and computer (just to name 2).

Actually it's when the get "turned in" that they do the most damage (leeching of heavy metals into the ground water, etc).

So it'll be better if I don't.

Wait... is anyone actually arguing that we need to stop using oil for everything? I'm of the opinion that it's wasteful to use oil to operate our cars, for example, but it's obviously a very important material in today's society.

Absent cars, what about boats, lawnmowers, airplanes?

No. That's why I said it's a strawman.

I can't see any way around using oil in airplanes (for now). Large ships could be nuclear powered. Lawnmowers could easily be run on biofuels. These are just a few ideas off the top of my head.

I realize that we will probably always need to burn some oil to convert it to energy... which means we will always need a source for oil. This is probably all the more reason to use it somewhat sparingly. Ultimately, I'd like to see us free from foreign oil.

What folks don't seem to get is that it is a finite source of energy.....one day there will be no more, and rendering the discussion of it, a moot point. Do we wait for that fateful day to arrive, or do we, like the thinking beings we claim that we are, do something actively about it now? Little movement towards that end, hence the reason for my cynicism.

Unfortunately, it seems high (oil) prices are the only means to that end.

At least with the reps in charge anyway.

Why not both? Who exactly is saying we shouldnt also use alternative fuels? All I see is democrats saying no more oil, and republicans, use everything and anything. Which makes more sense?

That's for the free market to decide...not a bunch of mini-Napoleons and junk science junkies.
