I think it was to do with talking about a large swathe of mid western America and interested in god and guns and bitter about some of their perceived treatment by the government/ media etc.

The right has tried to blow it way to some big insult against these people when in fact its just something you or I could easily say about people in conversation.

Like me refering to the Prods in Northern Ireland as being loyalist and Unionist, most of them are. But many are also more Unionist and less loyalist. Further discussion requires more specific commentary but that would be another conversation altogether.

Another example might be Black people in America having a 'black' culture. That is true, but its not absolutely true. So does me saying that make me have something against black people? Of course not. But if you were a snivelling conniving pedantic evil bastard you could make it out that way.

Thats what the right has done in Obama's case.

Of course "the people" don't seem to care too much about the issues anyways, unless the issues includes mudslinging and dirt.

It certainly seems that way.

The issue here is that many in the GOP, including McCain, have suggested that Barack Obama is out-of-touch with the average middle-class American. They've tried to assign him an "elitist" label in an attempt to portray him as snobbish and distant. Karl Rove even described him as "the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by." (Political Punch)

Though John McCain, himself, didn't make these remarks, he has defended this "Obama is out-of-touch" mentality, and, thus, he has become susceptible to criticism when he makes a comment that is perceived as, "Gee, I've got so many houses I can't even keep track."

That being said, I'm not sure it's fair to hold the man completely accountable for making that mistake. It can be a difficult question because it depends on what you mean by own. It also depends on what the reporter meant by you. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that either candidate is particularly more out-of-touch than any usual candidate running for president, so the whole purpose of the argument is pretty moot.

That someone has ever been "affected by the salary" of being President is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

When you have attack dogs like Karl Rove you don't need to create your own adds anyways . But McCain has had many negative adds and so now will Obama.

No, but there are plenty of attack dogs from each party.

OK. Your use of rhetoric by throwing an irrelevant, yet emotional, name into a discussion is noted.

Re: McCain forgets how many houses he owns

No I was responding to imperator's post. McCain doesn't need to get those negative adds. I understand how you feel, but I don't ALWAYS have to contribute a lot to a conversation if I were just responding to someone in the thread. Anyways, I usually add quite a lot to a conversation with just my presence, don't you agree?

I watch and observe. Based on what I've seen, I was surprised by your appeal to emotion. And I noted it.

Winning points on fallacies then getting uber defensive when called on your fallacy. Yup, a lot is being revealed. Thanks.
