Latest attack on Palin. She prays!
I know that politics can get pretty nasty at times, but getting this petty is just stupid. They pounce on her religion as if it makes a difference in how the voters are going to react. So petty.....Why doesn't the media stick to the real issues?

They can't they don't have anything else on her. But attacking her religion. Hmm--let's see the entire south of this country is the bible belt, the midwest & western states, (besides the north west) are regular Christian church goers. Personally, I hope the media & the left wing fringe waccos of the democrat party keep it up. Every time they come out with a new nonsense assault, McCain/Palin poll numbers go UP. |

Re: Latest attack on Palin. She prays!
Well, it looks to me like she was misquoted here, but to say there isn't anything else on her -- how about membership in a secessionist party, failure to do anything about a city regulation charging rape victims for the cost of forensics, lack of significant political experience, and extremist religious-right political views? I'd say there's plenty, and no need to scrape the bottom of the barrel just yet.
As for this business about our soldiers being on a holy war, what she actually said was that she prays our soldiers are on a mission from God, not that she thinks they are. That's not quite as bad. It's close, though. America is not a theocracy, and our soldiers shouldn't be on any divine missions. Their job is to protect the nation, not to destroy the infidel or enforce the will of God. Praying and so by implication desiring that they be on a divine mission, is only slightly less disturbing than believing that in fact they are. |

Re: Latest attack on Palin. She prays!
The media doesn't JUST talk about these stories. Rightwingers just obsess over them because their candidate must be free from any disparaging comment while the opponent is allowed to be smeared as an American hating, muslim friend of a terrorist. Yup, that's "fair and balanced".

BTW, BHO hopes to be an "instrument of God's will". I wonder if folks also have an issue with that?

Re: Latest attack on Palin. She prays!
Rakkasan, the difference is that while I might cry foul at lame right wing attacks on Obama. The campaign does not cry foul in the overwhelming and systematic way the GOP and McCain campaign does. Their ENTIRE campaign right now is: 1. Run against the media 2. Complain Palin is being treated unfairly. That's...actually it. That's all they are doing that's all they are talking to the media about and I haven't heard a lick from either of these candidates about their plans for the future, other than limiting earmarks. Which won't really do anything.

However, I will call neither of them "highly irrational". I will call both of them folks with faith and both who express their faith in a very common way. |

Re: Latest attack on Palin. She prays!
I thought the country was tired of Jesus freaks being in office, but I guess not. Praying is nice and good if that's a past-time of yours, but what bugs a lot of people, including me, is that "praying" has been the primary strategy of the current administration's efforts in their two wars.
Her comment on Iraq being "God's work" is disturbing to me. I've been caught up with the Toronto Film Festival, and I just found out today that Gov.Palin had this whole 9/11 send off for her son. She said that her son and his colleagues would be going to Iraq to fight against those who attacked us on 9/11. Either she's really ignorant and that's disconcerting, or she was saying that politically, which is repugnant. |
