This is a terrible time..........

......to become POTUS. Personally , I don't think either candidate can possibly unite the two parties to expedite pulling us up and out of the pickle we're in, and that isn't "their fault", right? As Americans struggle to make ends meet, precious time will be wasted on partisan struggles concerning all things unimportant to the survival of our nation.
Main Street America has yet to feel the pain of the financial crisis that we are just now entering. Most people haven't even thought about the failed businesses, the lost jobs, the decline of quality of life that we will soon experience. The news tells us about the stock market, the falling values of stocks, the plight of the investor and the compromised retirements of millions of Americans, but you have to look hard to see spots on how all this is destined to affect Joe Blow, the blue collar -non investor with a family to feed. What could Obama or McCain possibly do to fix a crisis that was years in the making and now looms at the global level?

All I can say is whoever wins better be ready to leap off the page of their Marvel Comic Book and save the world, we're all counting on them, y'know........

Well its clear that only one will be willing to take the best action that the federal government can do to help which is to finally cut spending.

I think a time like this is the best to become president. It's likely things can only get better rather than taking over in a time of prosperity and hoping it is sustained for four years.

Yup, I can't recall another moment in history when a President-elect was walking into a complete disaster on practically every front possible.

I hope the next administration has the courage to promote some kind of national sacrifice, because America needs to tighten it's belt considerably and start living within it's means once again. It's going to take the courage to cut spending. Meanwhile, John McCain and Barack Obama propose tons of new spending.

Dude, McCain's tax plan and health care tax credits combined cost over $1 trillion more than Obama's, based on two bi-partisan reports. It's partially why Republicans like George Will reject McCain/Palin.

I'm not a doom and gloom kind of person, but no one should kid themselves into thinking that they might find themselves standing in one of these.

Realists like myself reject both candidates. turn your TV on and witness the partisan hate during a troubled time in which there should be unification. These fucks are merely feeding their huge egos, can you not see that?

But he'll hold off what he can't afford as opposed to Obama. Besides, tax cuts cost nothing, Washington will just have to spend less.

Which gets me back to the original point...

And it's partly because we Americans want everything for nothing. Tax cuts, wars, an entire new branch of the federal gov't, and nation-building paid for by foreign loans and deficit spending.

The Republican notion of self-responsibility is lost on this country, yet they continue to preach it self-righteously while cowering from obvious truths such as the ones I just brought up.

And you trust a Republican to spend less?

Can you admit that with a straight face?

We don't have a complete disaster on every front possible. The Iraq war is a mess, but small potatoes as catastrophes go. I would say that Abraham Lincoln, 1861, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1933, both were inaugurated facing difficulties about as severe. I'll add that Lincoln was actually more untried and inexperienced than Obama, and Roosevelt was widely considered a lightweight. As they surprised the nation and the world, so Obama may provide pleasant surprises, too. I do see the potential in him.

Re: This is a terrible time..........

Obama will need to stand up on election night and say the following things.

The next 4 years are going to SUCK. I have hope and I want change, but right now the future is not looking good there are going to have to be major sacrifices made by ALL patriotic Americans. Wealthier Americans are going to have to pony up a little more in taxes each year. Corporations who hide profits off shore will no longer receive ANY tax incentives from the Federal government. And Americans are going to have to sacrifice a little themselves. Particularly when it comes to oil. If you can carpool and you don't? You're going to need to. I'm going to initiate a massive public transportation construction project around the country (put people to work). Let me be clear. We're NOT going to solve this mess in 4 years. It may take a decade of sacrifice and hardwork. But if we restructure our economy in a more sustainable way for steady growth, not wall street driven speculation, credit craziness, our country will be stronger for the long run.

Yesterday, John McCain actually said that if he’s president he’ll take on, and I quote, 'the old boys’ network in Washington.' I’m not making this up. This is somebody been in Congress for 26 years, who put seven of the most powerful Washington lobbyists in charge of his campaign. And now he tells us that he’s the one who’s gonna take on the old boys' network,” he said. “In the McCain campaign that’s called a staff meeting!- Obama, 9/17/2008

I think you should get him to say that on his 1/2 hr infomercial.

But if he waits there is always a recall.
