The Democrat is losing by 15 points according to a PPP poll from this evening.

I love the ability of democrats to add 2+2 and get 37. Only in liberal fantasy land does a conservative beating both a liberal republican and a democrat represent a bad thing for the GOP.

Actually, in the long run Hoffman's victory could hurt the GOP if it encourages further strong third party challenges from the right. I don't know how likely that scenario really is, however. It goes back to the main problem that Scozzafava was not a moderate. Had she been a real moderate Hoffman probably would not have run and wouldn't have gotten enough traction to screw her out of a victory if he did.

So who's stopping them? They've got an overwhelming majority in the House, and an almost veto proof Senate. So, who's spotting them?

They look like the Keystone Kops.

Not likely to happen, if this had been a normal election, with an actual primary where the republican voters had gotten to choose their standard bearer, nobody would ever have heard of Deedee Scozzafava, nor would anyone be paying any attention to this race. The more likely lesson will be that the GOP elders shouldn't sacrifice the quality of the brand by trying to opportunisticaly support liberals (they should have learned that lesson from their ill-considered support of the likes of Jim Jeffords and Arlen Specter). Bottom line, parties are best off if they stay out of their own internal races and focus on the other side.

The democrats do not need a single republican vote to pass anything that has the unified support of their own caucuses in both houses. Anyone who suggests that it is republican foot dragging is either lying or ignorant of how the Congress works.

Now, if you're blaming them for making alot of democrats fearful that they will lose their jobs when they have to face the voters over what their leadership wants them to do, it is not Republican foot dragging you have a problem with, but democracy.

The good news for the voters in the district is that now they get to chose between Conservative and Republican-lite, without the Liberal in the race anymore.

Exactly as I said earlier, if nobody knew who the democrat, republican, and conservative party nominees were and were looking at this race strictly based on the candidates positions they would conclude that the democrat had just dropped out because they had no hope, and that the race was really between a moderate republican and a conservative republican.

Re: Republican Scozzafava quits race NY:23

If the Hoffman thing is a trend for the GOP then perhaps theres hope for them yet.

Of course the fact that now the GOP will listen even more to Palin is probably a disaster for the party.

So I'm gonna call this one a mixed success.

As far as Lieberman? If he actively votes against the dems healthcare plans, he should be immediately kicked from the party and stripped of all committee duties and responsibilities. Hell he supported a republican president and has actively campaigned for R's over D's. The squishy republicans don't even stoop that low (Specter at least had the balls to switch parties instead of staying R and campaigning for dems). Chances are though, if Lieberman fucks the dems over, they will let him keep all of his positions, because they are pansy-assed pussies that way.

Scozzafava is a liberal democrat with an R behind her name. Nice trick--but it obviously didn't work,.

The RNC needs to get a clue. There are millions of tea partiers in this country that vote in every election. If the RNC is not going to give us conservative candidates, then we will form a 3rd conseravtive party--that will run against the republican & democrat party.

I don't see any trick here.

While you're busying tea-bagging, and you're utterly ignorant of what real numbers mean, what's the 'democrat party'?

I've never heard of it before.
