I elect people based on their philosophy and character, not specific issues. No person can understand the entire job until their there. BUt a conservative who start with, lets get govt out, so you can deal with the issues directly, is even better.

Growing up in a district is best case and always enviable...but frankly when these folks who do rep. congressional districts go to college, work out of district then come home and run, how 'up’ on things do you think they are? They’re better briefed by and large I'll give you that but so what? If a guy says hes a fiscal con. he can be from mars for all I care, principals that are attractive are universal and mobile, they don’t grown in a district cabbage patch and belong to the homeys…..but that’s not what this is about anyway.
The questions they were going to ask were published in the paper that morning before he got to the interview. If this guy can't find it within himself to at least brush up on a "parochial" topic or two, what does that say for his real motivation for running to be their Rep? It's obviously not because he wants to serve the people in NY's 23.

Oh no, I've just been WAITING for someone to say that, I knew it was coming, just took a little longer than I thought it would.

None of which matters. What DOES matter is that those infernal VOTERS seem to want HIM to represent them regardless of his residency, familiarity with local issues, or motivation. I know that democracy is disturbing to the left, but suck it up baby!

If you try actually reading, I've made it clear from the start that this is just my opinion, and if he is what they want, more power to them. I don't vote for people simply based on what letter they choose to put after their name, but if that's democracy at its finest to you, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Re: NY-23 House Race (merger)

One of the underreported, and disgusting, aspects of this race has to do with why there is a race in this district at all. The former incumbent, a republican, was selected as Secretary of the Army. Now, it is reported (spun as political savy and genuous of Obama/Emmanuel) that this was done because Rahm figured this district could be a pickup in a special election.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit pathetic that the Obama administration is allowing such blatant partisan political considerations to play into their selection of an army secretary during wartime?

I didn't say it was the optimal solution, but I don't really think it's that big of a deal. As was pointed out, the guy grew up in the district and still works there so it sounds like he has been there most of life. He only lives eight miles outside the border. I think you're making a bigger hay out of it than it is. If he suddenly moved eight miles into the district, would it make any difference?

No more pathetic than those who accept unsubstantiated rumor as gospel truth.

I don't think it has anything to do with where a person lives, it has to do with knowledge of the district they want to represent, which he is lacking. IMO, Congressional reps should be more concerned with local issues than a Senator or Governor. Their constituents are much more concentrated and generally share more homogenous concerns. But I know less about NY's 23 than this guy does, so maybe being informed on the local issues doesn't apply there. We'll know tomorrow!!

It's called 'politics', and it's played in a savvy manner by people from both parties.
