Re: I'm happy the Dems are losing, but would be happier if Republicans were losing to

I heard a couple of different commentaries on the dem party's ability to continue to prevail at election time. Some have formed the opinion that Obama's win was purely charismatic and this simply isn't carrying over to the party as a whole. The dems have lost a lot of ground with their agressive "transform the US as you know it" programs, and IMO are going to be in major trouble in 2010, especially if they get their cap and trade bullshit started.

Actually I was talking about republicans not conservatives. Are they synonymous?

I don't actually WANT the left to win elections. I WANT a fiscally conservative party with liberal social values to win elections. That party doesn't exist. Ron Paul is the closest the republicans have. The dems, while not fiscally conservative are socially liberal. The republicans are not fiscally conservative, but they ARE socially conservative, hence I disagree with them more than the dems. So either way I'm fucked, but I tend to point out the failings of the republicans the most because they are the most screwed up of the two parties, the most hypocritical, have the least overall rational game plan, and they at least USED to stand for fiscal conservatism until they got hijacked by religious nutjobs to implement failed and bigoted social policies.

I agree with this except I believe the Republicans are the lesser of two evils because they won't bankrupt this country and cause a civil war.

I think the republicans are the greater of the two evils because they are the most likely to infringe upon my rights that are protected by the constitution.

I completely disagree with this. Look at this current administration.

They want to trample free speech with the "fairness doctrine" and trample all over the 9th and 10th amendment (not to mention their more secretive hate for the 2nd amendment).

True. But answering that question requires honesty. You'll likely not get that here.

Good to see you've conceded that social conservatives are pretty much cowards.

Unless I'm missing something, I can't recall seeing anything from the Obama administration saying one way or the other about reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. Some Dems have mentioned it, yes, but I don't think Obama or anyone in the White House has.

I've never agreed with social conservatives (on social issues) and haven't conceded anything.

The guy he appointed to chairman of the FCC (can't remember his name) is all about it now (even though he said he was against it before). Saw some video clips about it in the last month or so.

edit: As I've said a thousand times (and probably a 100 times here), there is no reason to vote for social causes when somebody has a bad economic policy. You can easily have social freedom in this country just with your interpersonal communications and your relationships with others in the world you live in. Your social world is yours, you can treat and respect anybody for whatever you want even if the government doesn't recognize things like same sex marriage. You can still have a ceremony and tell everybody you're married, it only matters if you yourself choose to except these things.

Bad economic policy affects everybody. It's impossible to control the value of the dollar just with your individual purchases. It's impossible to pay back all of this countries debts on your own etc, etc, etc. Not to mention the freedoms you have now to do business that can be stripped away tomorrow (or were taken away last week).

Nah. You're just missing the 'secretive' things.

Yeah, those video clips of the man saying the words himself are meaningless. Not surprised, that's how we got the marxist SOB in the White House we have now. Even when you see clips of this commie spewing his commie ideas from his mouth (5+ years ago), it still has no meaning to the voting public. Guess they didn't air it on American Idol.

I wouldn't say that the Republicans as a brand are "winning" per se.
