Re: Michele Bachmann = Intellectual Lightweight

As for Michele Bachmann, she's so much more likeable on camera than Palin, who seems to be feuding with someone different every week.

But Bachmann has no cred when she rails against gov't, since her family farm takes a quarter of a million in federal subsidies, she gets a nice gov't paycheck, and very nice gov't health care. Not a bad deal.

A quick correction: Canada's total stimulus package is $47 billion. That would be about $38-39 billion in US dollars at the time, and since America has ten times the population, that would be close to $400 billion. The US stimulus was closer to $800 billion, but that was due to tax cuts that took up 40% of it, while the Canadians invested in the country instead of mostly tax spending, bringing the number of spending down, while not choking off much-needed gov't revenue.

Canada is one of the most truly conservative of countries when it comes to banking, since their regulations are meant to protect the integrity of capitalism, whereas in the US, a more liberal approach is always championed by so-called conservatives, who forever cling like religion to the notion that only an unfettered free market can solve all of life's problems despite there being no evidence to back that up.

In 2009, the Canadian gov't passed it's first stimulus, at a modest $12 billion (it was actually just under $6 from the feds with matching funds being kicked-in by provinces and municipalities like a lot of the US stimulus), and it targeted direct job growth mostly in infrastructure projects, as well as clean energy research and development. Between the Poles: Canadian Stimulus Package in Budget 2009

That was phase one of the CEAP (Canada Economic Action Plan). You can read the whole of it here. THE PLAN - Canada's Economic Action Plan

Canada did things like increasing Old Age Security for seniors, they did a wonderful thing by forgiving new physicians up to $40,000 of their student loan debt for practicing in underserved areas, and up to $20k for nurses doing the same; they invested in infrastructure.

Canada has done better than it's other G-7 peers in recovering employment because they specifically targeted spending on those who need it the most, whereas in the US, almost $1.2 trillion out of the last $1.6 trillion spent on stimulus has been tax cuts, which serve to cut off revenue to the gov't while not creating any jobs. Conservatives in America decry Obama's prediction of 8% unemployment by the end of his stimulus as a lie, but that prediction was made in the fall of 2008 when then-candidate Obama had proposed that all the stimulus should go to job creation, when in the end 40% ended up being tax cuts that created zero jobs in order to get the thing passed. Had that gone into job creation instead, the unemployment rate in America would at least be another half point lower according to all the experts that have weighed in about the continuing failed tax cut policies employed in America, which just don't work but that America clings to like a religion.

It's not rocket science what they did in Canada; they kept revenues flowing into the gov't by not slashing taxes, invested in the people who needed it the most, put it into job creation, research and development, and have put the rest now into getting the deficit back in order (it is expected that the Canadians will have paid off the debt in 2015, not bad at all).

America would have done well to do the same things, but their leaders are pretty retarded and cling to tax cuts and trickle down economic policies that have not actually ever worked as the thing that will finally save America. Pretty lame.

I don't care for her much but I did catch her being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer recently and she did a very good job at fending of attempts to get a gotcha moment that Palin may have stumbled into.

It'd be like a politicial figure railing agaisnt AGW pollution caused by energy use and having a mansion that wasted a lot of energy.

Pretty interesting situation in Canada, who'd think giving people who actually can benefit from stimulus funds the stimulus funds, simply shocking

Bachmann and Palin are probably the most intelligent Republicans on the planet, they are light years ahead of the average Republican.

LOL at the state of liberal education in America. The lights were a warning to the British, to not screw with America. Back then we knew our principles and rights, the Second Amendment meant the warning was to be taken seriously. People back then had balls the size of church bells - surely you heard of the Liberty bell, and how the clapper cracked it?

One light meant we were going to kick thier butts once, 2 lights meant we really going to get serious and kick thier butts twice, you betcha.

Well I guess that makes you almost as smart as Sarah Palin. Congratulations.

Yes, I'm intimidated by someone who believes the US shouldnt be part of the global economy and believes something out of "I Dream of Jeanie" should be taught in place of actual science.

We know that President Obama was editor of the Law Review. That's not a position anyone with sub-par grades gets selected to.

While I disagree with the President on more than a few things, he's not stupid.

I really think Democrats are really shooting themselves in the foot with this "he's/she's stupid/racist/homophobic/etc." strategy. They got a fair amount of mileage out of it with Bush but not enough to win either Presidential election and it's really run it's course. The mainstream media really looked foolish in particular over the Palin email debacle.

This is going to be a close election decided by a small number of swing voters regardless of who the GOP nominee is and I just don't see those voters responding well to "Immigration policy? Oh, my opponent is just racist".

That's just one man's opinion though.
