How did the police find out a crime had been committed? Did the girl go tell her parents, "I gave Genarlow a blow job" and her parents rush out and file a police report? Do you know of any 15 year old girls who rush home to tell their parents that? I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to say this should have never gone to trial to begin with. Was it a case built on hear say and then he incriminated himself?

I think it should have never been reported as a crime and certainly should not have gone to trial. It's really screwed up that if they had had actual sex, they would have fallen under some kind of Romeo and Juliet exception, but a blow job will get you 10 years?!?!

I think I saw this on t.v. The police raided the party, and then stumbled across a cell phone video recording. Anyways, that's what he gets for being at a party with Whites. Everyone knows that it's not in anyone's best interest to have people of different races associating with each other in the South.

OMG! Are you serious?!?! Why is it I always feel somewhat less sorry for folks when they record themselves? It's still stupid to get 10 years for a blow job and then have to register as a sex offender.

And again, OMG! Are you serious?!?!? First, I think race is a really ignorant subject to bring into this. It was a blow job and as far as I know men of all races enjoy being on the recieving end of such an act. Secondly, how do you know any white folks were even present at the party? The article makes it very clear that all participants were black. I don't know...maybe a white person would have been charged and convicted of a lesser crime and that's the angle.

BTW, I'm highly disgusted that the article even starts out saying, "A Georgia judge is expected to decide by Monday whether to toss out a mandatory 10-year prison sentence for a black man who was convicted...". What's wrong with simply saying, "...for a man who was convicted..."?

As much as I'd like to just see the whole thing thrown out, is it too late to find him guilty of a lesser crime?

I think part of the reason this is getting so much attention is that while technically illegal, it Should have been thrown out, and most likely would have been had it been a white male on the receiving end rather than a black. (The girl was white.)

No kidding. It hasn't been all that many years in the US to where there wouldn't have been a trial in that part of the country for a black man caught having sexual relations with a white woman. He would have been dead.

Where does it say the girl was white? I read, "According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, all the individuals involved, including the girls, were black." I know I didn't much sleep last night and I desperately need a nap, but I am just not seeing where anyone involved was white. Even if the girl was white...big freakin deal. I see enough white and blacks hook up that it's really not a big deal...in fact, I see it in my own family.

The only thing I can figure is that if it were a bunch of white folks partying in the same manner no charges would have been filed at best or lesser charges would have been filed and it probably would have never gone to trial. I don't know.

I am able to notice that locations as "Dallas, TX" and "Louisiana". I wasn't educated in the South so I am capable of reading comprehension. Interracial couples are common but also despised. The fact that the case took place in the South is relevant because we all know what that region of America represents. The South is like a brain tumor. We really don't want it in America, but we can't get rid of it.
