Re: Teen gets 10 years for consensual oral sex with 15 year old.

I think it should have never been reported as a crime and certainly should not have gone to trial. It's really screwed up that if they had had actual sex, they would have fallen under some kind of Romeo and Juliet exception, but a blow job will get you 10 years?!?!

BTW, I'm highly disgusted that the article even starts out saying, "A Georgia judge is expected to decide by Monday whether to toss out a mandatory 10-year prison sentence for a black man who was convicted...". What's wrong with simply saying, "...for a man who was convicted..."? As much as I'd like to just see the whole thing thrown out, is it too late to find him guilty of a lesser crime?

No kidding. It hasn't been all that many years in the US to where there wouldn't have been a trial in that part of the country for a black man caught having sexual relations with a white woman. He would have been dead.

The only thing I can figure is that if it were a bunch of white folks partying in the same manner no charges would have been filed at best or lesser charges would have been filed and it probably would have never gone to trial. I don't know.

You don't seem to get this. The party took place in the South. You know, the place that considers the Civil War as "The War of Northern Aggression".

You don't seem to get this. Crystal and I both live in the south and interracial couples are extremely common. And wtf does it have to do with this case? Like Crystal, I can't find anything stating that the girl was white. (BTW, doesn't Atlanta have a black majority?)

Wait, are you serious? This young man was prosecuted in Georgia because of a Tennessee law? Only in the South.

I see you prescribe to the "guilty until proven innocent" approach.
